    Redirection problems

    Several times lately when I click on a link to a thread here at Calguns it goes to this link at shopica (or similar):

    I'll assume it has something to do with a DNS but is it happening on calguns, my ISP, or my computer that causes the redirection?

    Never had this problem before and it's not a big deal but it is becoming annoying.

    I'm betting you've got some poison entries in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts there should be only 1 entry in there (127.0.0.1 localhost).

    There is also the possibility that you've been infected by some malware.

    The redirection is almost certainly coming from your computer, from the malware. I always count Windows as being good for about 6 months before I have to reinstall it. Thankfully I don't use Windows much anymore. Good malware scanner and good anti-virus may help but I usually just reinstall windows when something compromises it.

    You can rid yourself of this sort of problem with a Mac or Linux. I recommend Mac.

    Mac = user friendly
    Windows = user unfriendly
    Linux = user hostile

      OK this is what's in there:

      127.0.0.1 localhost
      ::1 localhost

      Do I need to delete the ::1 ?

          download a trial version of Nod 32, update it, reboot into safe mode, and then scan it.

            I'm already running ESET and SUPERAntiSpyware. They seem to be working at catching other things. The redirection is only occasional and only happens with CGN on the first click of the day. Not a big deal but I was wondering if anyone else had noticed it.

            Thanks
            Jim

              Yeah it's just another way to generate ad revenue. Cool with me.

                Well something hit me full on tonight. I Googled "timney AR-10 triggers" and the first website returned was timneytriggers.com. When I clicked it, I notice a quick re-direction and BOOM a virus. Locked me up good and tight with an XP AntiVirus variant. Not a peep out of ESET or SUPERAntiSpyware, ARRRGH!

                Luckily, I had an Acronis backup image from two weeks ago and a Quicken backup from this morning, so all I really lost was some emails.

                The ESET people are going to hear from me though. Really, WTH am I paying them for?
