First I will start by saying I had no intentions of buying this game when it was announced, but playing the demo earlier this week and finding it on Amazon for $40 with free shipping through Prime I figured why not.
For those of you who remember the good ol' days of the N64 classic and are expecting a similar experience you will be sadly disappointed. The storyline has been heavily modified, its no longer a Brosnan Bond as they used Daniel Craig's likeness and voice. The only carryover from the actual movie that I have found so far is Judy Dench voicing M. The story takes place in modern times, things are modernized, such as you main gadget is a smartphone. A few of the weapons have been given their real world names, your default weapon is the Walther P99, just like in the recent Bond films. Gameplay is similar to Call of Duty, regenerative health, limited to carrying your P99 and two other weapons, controls are almost identical with small variations to Call of Duty(only real difference I have found is that your character does not jump, but instead can vault over railings and other smaller obstacles. You can play on 007 Classic mode which will do away with regenerative health, and require you to maintain body armor like in the original game.
Overall, being as the Call of Duty series is my default FPS game, I would rate this game as a 7/10, worth playing if you are a 007 fan like myself, just go into like its a completely new Bond story, as if it fits into the new Casino Royale reboot Bond Universe. If you aren't a big 007 fan, it may be worth passing on this game. With my few hours of gameplay I am really happy, and based on its single player merits the game is worth buying, but not at full retail $60 right now. If you can get it for a decent price, like I did, I would definitely suggest it.
I will update this thread in a day or two when I have some time to test out the multiplayer mode and see how it stacks up to other games like Call of Duty. Will add to this post as well as I progress further through the game with my impressions of the quality of the game and story (no spoilers).
