    Dodged an Expense

For the past few months I've been having trouble getting on to - and staying on - the net. I upgraded my home system: no improvement. I had the Comcast guys come out three times: once to check the home wiring, then to check the cabling from the pedastle, and today to re-work the pedastle.

Still: zip, and they tell me the problem is a degraded signal.

Then they're hooking up hot wires and in the home rewiring the modem and telling me it looks like I'll have to get a contractor out here to replace the cabling in the house and oh by the way, there's large staples holding it to the uprights so it's going to be a complete replacement.

I am not overjoyed hearing this, and with a two bedroom townhouse on the second floor, I have no idea how much it would cost me to get this done.

Can anyone here give me an idea?

(PS - what eventually happened was they determined the incoming signal was low for everyone, so they somehow boosted it and when the cable guy hooked me up to a new modem (just to see) lo and behold! I am on line and blazing.)

i had a similar problem with the place i was in about 5 years back. i guess no one in my radius that shared the local box with me had Comcast's high speed internet yet and 3 Comcast guys came out, 2 of them told me that the line from the tap in the street to the house was bad.

then the last guy came out and said everyone who had come before him was a complete imbecile, he made one 5 minute modification to the local box down the street and BAM! 100%.

        Comcast...hahahaha.
After the umpteenth time I went offline, and they said it was my fault, and it magically fixed itself the next morning, I told them to stuff their "service". I went over to AT&T and never had anymore troubles.
Comcast is so well run, 4 years after dumping them, my Comcast e-mail account still works!
