So I am trying to trash some older Word docs and keep getting the message that I can't delete it because its an open file (or not the original file) and I should close it first and try again. The thing is, I didn't have the file open in the first place, I didn't have ANY Word docs open. So, how can I delete it?

right click on the bottom task bar and go to task manager, then click on processes and find any word doc thats open and click on it and click end, then try and delete it after that"Be not that far from me, for trouble is near; haste Thee to help me. Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight. My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me." -

If it still won't let you, boot into safe mode with command prompt and try it that way.NRA Life Member
