Outlook e-mail read/unread

In Outlook mail is it possible to open and view a short e-mail close it quickly and when a check is made later on the read/unread status, the e-mail showed unread? It is on a old slow busy system.

I was not computer smart enough to do that. My situation is, open mail, only two sentences so I am a quick reader, e-mail has info in it that I had too respond to the e-mail and I did but the computer record shows unread. I know I read because I responded to a security request from a high security federal system the record is clear and I have the paper work on each end that I responded but when doing clean up recently several e-mails show unread when proof exist I had to have read them close them very quickly at a time when the system has a large delay. Is it possible they remained unread due to the delay. The e-mail was not open when the handshake occured and it is left unread.
