extending the range of my router to unattached garage?

I have a question for the tech wizards:

I have an unattached garage that I would like to be able to use my computer with wifi. I would like to surf CG while I am using the treadmill. I saw an article on Yahoo about plug in wifi extenders are these a viable option? I have this http://softcom.net/wbbfixed.php for my internet service.
I know squat diddly about this subject so help a brother out please.

    TIA

Can you run a cable out there? Because if you run a cable to the garage you can always add a wireless access point out there. This is the one that I used but you do have to run a cable to it.

If you can get a decent wireless signal close enough to the garage then the other option as someone mentioned is to setup a wireless extender. I haven't used one in a few years so I can't give an opinion on how well they work.

        Thanks guys.

Running a cable isn't an option.

I was looking at the extenders but I wasn't sure how effective they were structure to structure versus room to room.

Wi-Fi signals have an easier time traveling down rahter than up.

If you can place the Wi-Fi Router up high...in an attic...you should gain enough to get a signal in the garage.
