What do you do with 2tb external drive?

Ok I'm dated. It seems huge to me. My laptop I had purchased with input from calguns, thanks! Last year, is full the hdd. So on black Friday I ordered a sea gate 2tb external usb2.0 from new egg. I think it was $89 or so. The reviews were mixed, a lot of negative, but I saw sea gate factory try and respond to individuals. I thought it was worth the gamble.

I don't have a USB 3.0 or FireWire, or e-sata. I don't think any ways, so I went ahead. Maybe I will start doing Netflix or something? I dunno. Right now, just backing up, or copying my internal to the external I see transfer rates of about 15mb/sec

I ended up with this one at newegg.

What do you do with that space?

I really need another external drive. I use all mine for storage of media, or other misc. Most drives are full of movies, and I keep one drive to mirror my workstation machine just in case.

^This^ HD movies take up 6-12 gigs each, and when you have a few hundred of them, they tend to take up a lot of space. I know my roommate has upwards of 5TB of hard disk space and most of it is full of movies and music.

            umm.. why not???

seriously freon, unless you deal with a lot of media, you probably won't. taking dslr pictures, i only consumed about 20-25gb so far on pics about my kid. my personal stuff is pretty small that i backup. you can always go torrent crazy about stuff you want to watch later. you can backup your blurays into the harddisk. compress maybe so you have something on the go to keep you occupied when on the road?

I have a small Synology DS211 setup with 2x2TB WD Caviar Black drives in RAID0, encrypted nightly push to Amazon S3 with critical data mirrored to a local also.

yellow... don't you find it funny ... the industry creates "large" capacity drives but yet, you cannot just use 1. you have to use 2. it is too large a risk to risk anything. same thing when i was learning about dslr. some of our dslr regulars/experts here pointed one important fact - too large a sd card, too much to lose if it goes bad in a middle of a shoot. best to have smaller like 8gb or 4gb and switch around.

i also have a 500gb. most of it is actually filled with images of my work laptop to make restoration easier when something happening is going like i like. same for data (work and personal). remove work laptop images, i actually don't save as much. my recently acquired 500gb nas isn't even close to 10% usage/saved right now. makes me think twice about getting another drive to have disk mirroring.

Same here, movies and tv shows take up a lot of space. I have got my blu ray rips down to about 5gb but still that goes quick.

I have a few of them hooked up to my home server to back it up. Tons of ISO movie rips, ebooks, all my normal files, programs, etc... 2 TB seems like a lot but really isn't these days, depending on how you use your computer.
