Cyanogenmod 7.1 Alpha 3 Released For The Touchpad

This was released two days ago, I'll report back after I install it and play with it for a while.

CyanogenMod for TouchPad ALPHA 3.5 ""I KNOW ICS SOURCE WAS RELEASED" EDITION * READ THIS COMPLETELY * Dear Internet, SPECIAL NOTE: ALL DISCLAIMERS FROM ALPHA 1 APPLY TO THIS VERSION AS WELL SO BE SURE TO REVIEW THEM. THE USE OR ATTEMPTED USE OF ALPHA 3 MAY RESULT IN VERY BAD...

EDIT: This should be the last CM 7.1 release for the Touchpad. CM9 is supposed to be released sometime in January.

I have alpha 1 and I'm less than impressed.

Depending on what the new asus prime comes with, I may bail the touchpad.

You have to remember that Android 2.3.x was meant to be used on phones. It has been modified to work on this tablet. When CM9 comes out (Ice Cream Sandwich) the experience will be much better. The ETA for CM9 on the Touchpad is January according to the devs. CM7 is more than useable on the Touchpad for most tasks though.

I had a unused touchpad (free, courtesy of HP) that I hadn't used until the first alpha came out for CM7. I opened it up, loaded CM7 immediatly, and was dissapointed. I rebooted it into WebOS and played with that for a few hours. If Apple had released WebOS as "IOS 5" it would have taken off like hotcakes. Too bad there are no apps, because even as a dead OS, it made for a nice experience.

With WebOS I had No Netflix, No Slingbox, No Hulu..... so back on the shelf went the touchpad.

I'll play with it again when CM9 is out and see if it's more usable than CM7.

I take it you haven't installed preware on it? Follow the instruction in the link but you only need to install Preware onto it, once it's installed the Preware app will be in your downloads tab.

WebOS is a really good OS, pisses me off that HP is abandoning it. If HP would have stood behind it and encouraged developers to write great apps it could have dethroned the iPad. I hope Intel and Qualcomm aren't just trying to buy it for the patents. If that's the case HP should just license the patents and release the WebOS source under the Apache license.

Hewlett-Packard is talking to Intel and Qualcomm about a deal for its Palm assets, but wants to license back the OS for its printers on the cheap, reports Venture Beat.

Discobayjoe, depending which instructions you are following you probably didn't get the gapps download. I was following the one on rootzwiki and it didn't have the google apps file to flash. that's why i couldn't see the android market (if that is what you meant by no apps). once you flash that, you'll get the apps stuff.

i've playing with 3.0 and flashed to 3.5 yesterday. i'm new to the android stuff but my 3 mos old samsung dart is the froyo version. honestly, that froyo version seems to be easier to maneuver than gingerbread. yes, GB is meant for phone but some of my very basic needs, webos works better.

sure, calguns renders better on andriod/chrome-lite (?) but i can't seem to stream flash files from anime sites. i already installed the flash app, tried opera/dolphin/ff and still not workign. seems to want to download the .flv files instead. whereas with webos, just plays straight-up w/o any finagling.

i also had a tough time with the browser not having a forward button. i can't seem to find the toolbar setting for that. i also saw that uninstalling an app doesn't remove the folders in android 2.3.7 (yahoo, dolphin)

i'm considering chucking it for now and wait for ICS. the browser did freeze a few times on me (forced closure since waiting was like forever) on calguns and another moto forum. sync doesn't seem to work as well since the apps i had before and on my phone didn't install automatically. (thought sync supposed to do that). maybe i'm just to used to froyo and that seemed easier to use (to me). not sure why app manager isn't available on gingerbread as it was on froyo. can't seem to easily switch apps if i wanted to, unless i have to download an app for that too.

otherwise, 3.0 and 3.5 seem to work well for basic use. i just have a few quirks on how i'd like to use it.
