Strike Industries iPhone case review (verdict: excellent!)

I got the Strike Industries iPhone case about a week ago and wanted to walk around with it in my pocket for a little while before writing a review. Before the Strike Industries case, the only other one I have tried is the Magpul iPhone case. The SI case beats the Magpul case in every way but one and the one thing is a very small thing.

First of all, I have to admit when I saw the first "technical renderings" of the SI case, I thought the "grab handle" (for lack of better words) looked a little goofy. I thought it might stick out too much and would just be kind of cumbersome in general. Well, the second I saw the product in person, that fear was put to rest.

The "grab handle" is the perfect size for gaining quick access to the phone from inside your pocket. It also allows chargers to be plugged in without removing the case or getting in the way. As an added bonus, my wife commented that she wants one now, so she can clip it to a mini-carabiner in her purse and not have to always go digging for her phone in the deep, dark depths.

Of course, this wouldn't be a complete review without comparison to the Magpul iPhone case. Size wise and thickness-wise, they are very similar on the main body. The SI beats the Magpul hands down in fit and with a slightly deeper "grabbing ridgeline" around the face edge, this case will NOT slip down and mute your phone when you pull it in and out of your pocket. I stopped using the Magpul case after about a week of missing calls, because my phone was switched to mute. I have not had that problem at all with the SI case.

One extra bonus of the "grab handle" on the SI case is it gives a natural extension to the phone when holding it one handed and typing with your thumb - it just cradles in the palm perfectly.

The only minor improvement I would ask for is a slightly more defined region on the case where the volume up, volume down and on/off switch are. They function perfectly, but you can't always tell if you are exactly on them without a little trial and error. This is the one minor area that Magpul's case wins.

Overall this is a great design and a great price - a perfect stocking stuffer.
