HTC Evo 4G or Motorola Photon 4G

I am considering switching to Sprint from Verizon ($80 unlimited plan looks attractive) and deciding on which of those two phones to get. Is there anybody in Sacramento area with knowledge on how to turn a phone into a hot-spot? Or is it possible to connect the phone to a laptop computer to watch video on larger screen (my eyes are getting old)? Which is better for Skype with video calling, if any? There are a lot of "how to" videos on youtube but I prefer somebody who knows this stuff do it for me or walk me through. Dinner is on me. Thanks.

You should definitely wait for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which will run on the newest firmware ice cream sandwich. I believe it is rumored to release this Monday for Verizon. Definitely will be one of the best phone on the market.

To turn the phone into a hot-spot can be hard depending on the phone. You will have to be rooted (jailbreak on iOS terms) to have Wifi tether and other hot-spot apps free of charge.

However, if you are just looking to get internet from the phone to the laptop, you can easily purchase apps on the market like PDAnet that will allow you to have your phone act like a hot-spot. It will works flawlessly.

Regarding video calling, Skype is nice but is still pretty laggy for me on my Samsung Galaxy S2. I usually use Google Talk video chat. It works flawlessly on my phone.

I'm happy with my EVO 4G, but I'm sure there are better phones out there now. I Skype my girlfriend all the time and it works pretty well with a strong WiFi connection. Very happy with the phone overall after a year of owning it, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

I have the EVO 4G. Had it since it came out. My girlfriend has the Photon.

Buy the Photon. The Evo isn't a bad phone, it's just dated. The Photon is dual core, better specs and features. Photon has perks like allow you to display and use your phone on a HDTV with their dock. Seamless.

Or an EVO 3D. Faster than the 4G Evo. IMHO
