anyone ever bought an iphone outside their local area?

Ie, I may be travelling in the next few months and find myself in a state with lower sales tax than CA, with the national wireless providers like ATT and verizon is I should be able to get a new iphone 4s and they can still activate it for me even outside my local state right?

I will call them but thought I would see if anyone had done this and if there were any caveats I am not seeing?

I have found it far far easier to deal with the apple store directly instead of the providers own stores. They are always so much more annoying to activate with and take longer and try 1000x times harder to sell you tons of accessories you don't want.

Got to Best Buy. Cheaper, better plan options, and warranty info.

If you're referring to buying your iPhone from your carriers store out of state, yes, so no need to worry, I've done this as I was residing in Florida for a while, and had to upgrade phones while I was out there. Had no problems.

I purchased my iPhone in Portland OR no problem. They transferred my contacts from my old phone and activated it right there.
