    Which Mac to get?

My wife has decided she wants a Appl laptop. She is giving up on Windows, and I have to say I support that call. She is just browses the web, uploading pictures, and we use ITunes to keep the IPhones and IPods up to date. She doesn't need to travel with it, just wants a portable platform for around the house. She is not a techie, so Linux is not an option (my platform of choice). Any suggestions on which model would provide the best bang for the buck?

Since she isnt traveling and all she does is basic stuff- you might want to check out the basic model.

my mac book pro lasted an insanely long time. the only thing that went bad with it was the battery, and by that time i had already got a few new computers. im sure if i pulled that thing out from where ever it was and put a new battery in it, id still be happy with it.

It sounds like the aforementioned Air fit the bill. Personally, I'd go iMac + iPad, but that's going to be a bigger price jump from an Air (depending on if you stick with least expensive base model).

Get a tablet. There are some Android tablets out there that would be great for the stated uses. I'm getting my wife a Samsung Galaxy Tab for Christmas. A laptop is overkill for surfing and email.

I got my mother in to an 11" Air and she loves it. My father has ditched his Galaxy 10.1 tab to use her Mac. Now it's time for him to probably get a 13" Air.

I myself am going to wait and pick up an iMac because I like larger screens and the convenience of a desk and going to pair it with an 11" Air for mobile/couch surfing.

+1 to the 15" Mac Pro.

10" tablets are actually hard to use. There isn't much to grip with your hand and as a result you end up having to hold it in awkward positions. Trying to hunt/peck type is kind of annoying as well. The only way you get full keyboard manipulation is by either having very large hands that reach across both sides of the tablet or by laying it/propping it up so you can kind of pseudo type.

Not all websites are properly formatted for tablet use and overall they still are more of a toy than anything.

The 11" air is almost the same size as an iPad2/Galaxy 10.1 and it comes with a full keyboard!

                            Either a MBA or a 13" MBP.

The MBA is a quicker because it has an SSD but with 64gb-256gb. Where as the MBP has a 5200 or 7200 rpm 500gb harddrive.
