    New TV

Picked up a Sanyo for $138. 18.5" LED. Doesn't have backlighting. 60hz... whatever that means. Product# 19241. I'm just looking around on the net trying to get a good idea of what I got. I have a few days until I can't take it back. Looking for input from others who have done their homework already. The brightness/darkness is an issue when it comes to gaming (BF3 PS3). Haven't used it for anything else yet.

I'm really looking for something on the smaller scale. I'm willing to drop some money into it and get something nice. Nothing bigger than 24" I guess.

If it doesn't have backlighting, then you wouldn't be able to see the picture on the screen. It'd be just a black screen.

    Is this the case?

It uses a panel of LED's for backlighting, as opposed to strips at the top and bottom, so you don't get the supposed dimness in the horizontal center of the screen that you would on huge LCD's / Plasma's.

          Personally I've never noticed it.

I went through the menu and found the dimmer on the backlight. I had to tweek a lot of the settings to get a decent picture balance for gaming. I might keep it if I can't find anything better in the size range.

Is 120hz something I should get? I was at Best Buy yesterday and all the stuff under 24" is a mix between LCD and LED yet I only found a few that were 1080 and I don't think any of them were above 60hz.

LED backlit displays in the price-range of that TV are lined up on the edge.

120hz is good to have if you plan on doing 3D gaming, it's also better for eye-strain. Have you looked into 22" - 24" monitors? You can save a little money if you go that route, especially if it's just for gaming. Just make sure it has HDMI input and an audio output (for speakers). Something like this works great for gaming.

There's even an IPS panel that is in your price range, these have the best color reproduction.

This past weekend's Target sales ads had a Westinghouse 32-inch LCD HDTV, 60 Hz, 720p, on sale for $197.
