    iPhone 4S Case Fitment (Magpul)

    helloooooo

I finally got my iPhone 4S in the mail today, and i'd like to put a case on it.

My 3GS had been using the Magpul field case. Of all the cases I have used, I like them the best; they are slim, sturdy (do not stretch or break in my experience), and yet still grippy enough so as to prevent me from hurling the phone on accident.

NOW, i'd like to get the iPhone 4 Field case (for the iPhone 4), to put on my 4S.

I was wondering if anyone knows if they'd be compatible? I've heard conflicting reports that the 4 case will work on the 4s, and also that it will not, so I am confused. Are the dimensions of the 4 and 4s really that different? I thought they were the same... <shrug>

    I'd appreciate any help!

The only difference I see with the 4s and 4 is the "silent" button on the left and above the +\- buttons.
It is about 1/8" lower on the 4s. I stole an extra case my girlfriend had for her 4 and had to cut a bit for it not to hit.
Other than that they are the same.

        +1

The iphone 4s is similar to the iphone 4 verizon sold/ is selling.

Compared to the iphone 4 that ATT sold the silent button is lower so my speck case doesn't work that well.

I have the 4S with a magpul iPhone 4 case.

The "silent mode" button is a touch lower on the 4S than the 4, but the case still fits. The problem is that the 4S has a flood type flash, which reflects off of the magpul case and creates a fog-type blur in dark pictures. This can be fixed by cutting the camera hole to be a bit larger, but i havent got around to it.

ETA- dunno if this was an issue with the 4, i went from the 3gs to the 4s

The latest version of the magpul cases fit both the AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4 without having to trim around the silent switch. They're one of the few companies that changed their tooling to accommodate the Verizon model. Another plus is they are made right here in the good old USA! Everything I've seen says the iPhone 4S is dimensionally the same as the Verizon iPhone 4 so I think you should be good to go. The Magpul Executive case also had the flash hole enlarged to fix the shadow problem. Don't know if that would be a problem on the 4S though.

Since this thread is open, I just got a 4S today and need some kind of case for it. Is the Magpul case that good, or do people just like it because it's Magpul? I want something to offer some chock protection, and especially to protect the glass should drop the device. Obviously water resistance is important, hence the clamshell to begin with. I don't expect to go swimming with the thing, but it would be nice to have it protected if it is on the desk and i knock over a bottle of water or something. How do the Magpul cases stack up against Otterbox?

It is actually a great case. Fits well, ribs add some grip and since it's not made of silicone it actually slides freely into/out of the pocket.

It has an outer lip to protect the screen if dropped.

It is a much sleeker design compared to the Otterbox. Everyone I show the Magpul case (non-gunnies) loves it.

Magpul is the best case i have ever owned for less than $30, and its only $10.

its durable, fits well, feels good and isnt bulky. it doesnt stretch or warp, its not so grippy that its hard to get out of your pocket, but its also not so smooth that its slippery, its soft so it absorbs shock, but it offers no front/screen protection.

The otterbox defender is the best case if have ever owned as far as protection (on my 3gs), and ive seen the new iphoen4 defender, and i will be getting one for free since i was at the 4S release with the otterbox reps. its a great case, but its also $50, not a huge deal though. id probably still buy one at that price even if i wasnt getting a free one. the new ones seem to be less "sticky" than then one for my 3gs, which is good.

the problem with the defender is its kind of a pain to take on and off, so if you dock your phone on a speaker system a lot, its pretty annoying, its also a little bulky. they offer it with real tree camo now if you want some tacticoolness.

keep in mind that screen protection is pretty hard to get. if you drop your phone and the glass touches the ground first, you are transferring the weight of the entire phone, through one tiny impact area made of glass, contacting with something like concrete or a rock. the good thing about the defender is that the screen is recessed a bit so if you were to drop it on smooth ground the glass wouldnt touch first, but on a pebble it wouldnt help much.

While magpul doesn't make a case like otterbox to protect your phone against an earthquake and a tsunami simultaneously. They do make a great case that is super cheap and effective enough for guys like me that are naturally careful with their things (I have not dropped a cell phone in 7 years) .

I have the FIELD case on my 4s and my girlfriend has the EXECUTIVE.

The FIELD is a little thicker but still very slim. Amazing grippy texture yet doesn't stick or drag in your pockets. Excellent snug fit. BEST case I've used in three generations of iPhones.

The EXECUTIVE Is thinner but just as nice. The front facing lip isnt as raised so there may be more risk of scratching the front glass.

I recommend the FIELD case (full ribbed) over the EXECUTIVe for this reason. If you want ultra slim, go executive.

Where did you purchase your Field case? I haven't seen them in stores yet for the 4/4s.

Does yours have problems with the flash causing a slight white haze? Supposedly that was fixed in the new Executive models.
