Kudos to McAfee for refunding the money for software.

You can't expect much from primary level tech support. The up-sell was funny though. He probably hit the wrong auto-respond phrase... twice

If it's not hosing everyone's laptops, then maybe there's something a little new or something Dell puts on there that is interfering, that wasn't tested in McAfee's QA process.

      Still frustrating I know.

You fill out a form with all that info in it before the chat window opens - I'll take it on the chin for deinstall

McAfee in the Enterprise with it's management tools is very very good. Unfortunately in the past 6 years since I've been out of the game it has become as bloated and useless as Norton has been for years. In the 2 small environments I still manage I use McAfee EPO server which is simple and easy to use.

I can also attest to Symantec endpoint being pretty good.

It is just Norton, Mcafee and Symantec consumer suites that are balls.

I almost made an oracle reference too, I didn't think anyone would get it.

Right. Macs don't get viruses. Or, at least, Mac users hardly notice them, they just buy new Macs every year because the "old" one is getting "worn out, so it slows down". Real story, by the way

For a home PC, why wouldn't you just use Microsoft Security Essentials? It is free and has been a lot easier to use than any of the other commercially available ones I've used in the past...

Wow VM, between the evil Apple empire treatment of you and now McAfee it sure hasn't been your week for cyber problems.

I'm ready to remove these trappings of modern life and return to a simpler time.... NOT

Everything works so smooth nowadays that any little interruption is a big deal.

Shooting up apple products is going up be a blast though. What do you expect from a company whose leader skipped surgery for changing his diet to cure cancer anyway? Dipstick then had liver failure as a result, steals a liver from a deserving person and dies anyway, goofball.

Yes, actually MSE for the Win PC (Vista and up) is surprisingly solid protection. Seemingly MS got that one pretty well right on target, and it plays very well in 3rd party review in speed and capture with other modern anti malware\virus software. As a "free include" for workstation OS software, you are doing just fine. However all eggs in one basket though might make one ponder, but I have yet to hear of that as an issue.

On Mcafee - they were big in the enterprise. They were first as decent players with large enterprise management and reporting, simple template hierarchical node management, etc. That though today is less unique. I also think their engine is just not to par anymore on speed and aquisition, outside of the enterprise offerings, like Norton it is bloatware, and they still are too "virus" centric in their security model in how the engine operates. I haven't been a fan of theirs much for long time now.
