    Canon 1Dx DSLR

Anyone going to pick one up?

Nice balance of video and still camera, better audio, and CF blades!
I must say Im a disappointed with the drop in resolution, sure the quality and the low light sensitivity will be better, but I was hoping it would be near the 30MP range.

Looks like medium format is still the way to roll if you're printing 20x30 @ at 300dpi

Not even close. I do large format printing from digital images and the current Canons will easily do 40 x 60" prints that look great. I have a 36 x 48" print (motorsports) from an original 1D (4.1M) that is tack sharp. And remember, making lots of those really huge images means having lots of flash storage and needing a fast processor to be able to write those images to the flash card quickly.

If you REALLY need to push the size, use PhotoZoom software for creating pixels where none previously existed. I use that for trailer wraps, etc. How about a super-scaled car photo on a two-car trailer? It's a different story when someone can walk all the way up to a print but not play connect-the-dots. PZ is significantly better than any other image interpolation software I've come across, including using PhotoShop itself. Try the demo version to test it out.

Really, because I have had files rejected and reshot on MFD because it doesn't meet specs. 4.1MP from 1st gen 1D at 36''x48'' is REALLY REALLY pushing it IMO. Tack sharp from what viewing distance?

I only use CF cards when doing HDSLR videos. Photos are captured directly to a Macbook running a SSD via either firewire or USB.

At 21MP out of a 1Ds MKIII a 32x48 is borderline acceptable. What if you need to crop in on an image?

With my older camera (5D 1st Gen) I previously used Genuine Fractals now called Perfect resize with pretty good results.

      EDIT...

I just checked out the examples on Photozoom Pro, what they claim as ''acceptable results'' is extremely poor and definitely unusable to me.

$6800? I'm waiting for the Sony A99. It'll give this Canon a run for its money at half that cost.
