slow wireless copy

I have two computer on my home network.

Both run Windows 7 and both have 'N' capability and the dual band router is 'N' as well.


Internet surfing and downloading is fine.

When I try to copy files from home machine to the other over my home network it is really slow. It takes about 2.5 minutes to copy a 26mb file.


I did some googling. I disabled the 'Remote Differential Compression' Seemed to help very little if at all.


Any ideas? Please use small words as I ain't not that smart.

i think that's about normal.. it's giga"bit".. not giga"byte" when it comes to network speeds.

it took me about at least 30 mins to copy 12gb of data from my laptop to the nas on wifi (802.11g)

not normal at all. If you do the math, it would work out to be 1.7 Mbps or a bit more than 1/500 of a gigabit per second.

I'd check...
1) make sure your 2 computers are not the bottle neck first. Are they busy/idle?
Is something else eating into its disk i/o capacity?
2) check what wireless channels they're on, make sure they're not the
same or 1 off -- there could still be some interference.
3) check any firewall setting

Also, you didn't say what access point you have. If it's the cheapest out there,
it may just be crappy.


edit... how do you copy? Using some kind of file transfer tool? Or just drag and drop via windows networking.
Windows networking is mighty inefficient.

it slow now that i'm re-reading...

OP.. by chance did you upgrade your NIC cards to 802.11N also? or are you still on 802.11g or 802.11b/c??
