network Q: name of LAN using bridged router ssid

so i have my wrt54g router as primary and i have a second one that is bridged that is also wrt54g. let's just say ssid of primary is home1 and ssid of bridged router is home2.

can't tell when it happened but when i dock the laptop and i have the docking station hardwired to lan (i also disable wifi), the network name of the hardwired connection says home2 (ssid of bridged router).

i check my other machine that is only hardwired and it just says "Network" as name. Granted my docked laptop is my work laptop using a domain instead of home network.

but still surprised it's using the ssid of the bridged router as the network name. i just turned the bridged router off to see if the signal is going hardwire -> bridged router -> back to primary -> internet, which would slow everything down.

can't find a way to changed the network name too. was worried if it's looping thru the bridged router for connection. ddwrt doesn't have a network name in the settings other than wifi ssid name and just a router name.

no network gurus that can answer? just a curiosity question now. i turned off the bridged router and hardwired connection still worked. but just starnge it would pick up the ssid of the bridged router as the network name for that local area connection.

Do both of your access points have a hardwire connection?

or did you enable bridgeing to have your second AP work as a repeater?

Turn off you wireless adapter - it might be picking up the home2 network. You're probably reading the ipconfig results incorrectly

nose.... the secondary router home2 is wifi bridged as repeater to home1
my laptop docking station is hardwired to the home1 (i turned off wifi when i dock)

vmwerks...i turned off the bridged router where the network name was being picked up, and network still working. i see the "home2" network name for local area connection when i hover the mouse pointer to the network connection icon, and when open networking window. not ready thru ipconfig dos window.

running win7 enterprise 64-bit if it matters. other non-domain networked machine runs win7 enterprise 32-bit and is also hardwired to home1 router. but it does not pick up the ssid of home2 router (which is wireless bridged to home1).

i wonder if it's because 2nd machine... i never had to use the home2 ssid/access point???

What is happening is that you are probably getting the same IP. If so you computer is just reconizing the same network.

windows 7? When you first connect to a network it asks you to designate that network as a Work, home, or Public network. Depending on what you label that network will offer different security. The trick is that windows now calls this Home everytime you connect. If you connect to another network and decide it too deserves the "home" setting it will name that network home2.
So, if you connected via your SSID wireless (to either home or home2) it would ask you what type of network this was, you most likely said home. Then you docked your workstation and it asked what type of network this was (because you are on a different adaptor so it reads as another network) this becomes labeled home2. your second home network.

Your SSID is totally different you only see that when you connect via wireless. I would recommend changing the name of your SSID, if you live in an apartment something your neighbors would like my favorite to date: "We can hear you having sex"
              Good luck.

SSIDs are network names are completely different things.

The reason you see "Home2" on your laptop is because its a non-domain networked laptop so all your networks are "Home." Since your wifi connection is #1, windows just auto assigned a name it - home network #1.

When you connected the lan cable, the new connection is home network #2 - "Home2"

                ----

Why are using different SSIDs if you are using the routers/bridges to create one network? Just have them all on the same SSID.
