    Time to upgrade?

I'll throw one more thread like this out there.

I've got about a 4 year old system with:

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor BX80562Q6600

ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

    4x G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

    8800gts video card.

What I use it for, general pc stuff, games TF2, portal, some of the other FPS, I will be playing SWTOR when it comes out.

    What I'm looking at:

    Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop

Mobo and memory at least of course, maybe a new video card in a couple months. Not sure if going to SSD would give me a huge bump in speed for the price.

Budget is about $600.00-700.00 any suggestions? Or should I just buy another gun?

if you're not having issues in game or with general functionality then i wouldn't upgrade. If you're not satisfied with your performance then upgrade.

You might just want to reformat your hard drive. that will get rid of a lot of slowdown issues and you can keep a better eye o programs that you reinstall.

Sandy Bridge-E is a couple months away. Ivy bridge is out March of 2012. If your in no rush to upgrade, you'll get some better deals on the current Sandy Bridge powered computers.

My PC is just getting a bit dated, I have a fresh boot partition for gaming and it's still a bit slow. I noticed it mostly when they updated TF2( not a very taxing game). So I'm a bit worried with a few of the new games coming out that it will, run like a pig on them.

I'll look into those. It's more of a I have the money now(just got a bonus) closer to Christmas money will probably be tighter.

          Thanks for the input

You could just upgrade the video card and ssd. It would zap your pc back to life for now and you can upgrade the rest later. There are a lot of new products coming out pretty soon that you might want to wait for.

If your planning on getting a 570, then I would not get a reference card like the superclocked one. They have had alot of issues with vrm's.
The top two non reference 570's out there are the DCII and the Twin Frozr III
If your planning on picking up an ssd, then make sure you dont get one with a sandforce controller as it is a gamble on whether it will fail or not. I have had luck with the ocz vertex drives in the past, but many people seem to have very bad luck with them. You might check out Intel or Crucial if your looking for a little more reliability. I currently have the Crucial m4 128 and its awesome. I was happy with it when I first got it, but I got a nice surprise after they released the newest firmware (0009) for it. It bumped the read speeds up about 100mbps.

Fry's has a combo with the i7 2600k + asus p8p67 evo for 419.99 with a 20 dollar mail in rebate. I think I am going to pick one up tonight.

I have a eVGA SC 580 coming tomorrow with a 128GB plextor SSD.

I was gonna stick with my E8500 but, I like the look of this Fry's combo (for once).

For the 6-700 budget I would recommend the i5 2500k. The extra 100mhz and hyper threading isn't going to be a noticeable different gaming and they are very overclockable. Take the extra money and get a 580, the fastest single GPU you can get. When they do the 600 series next year get another 580 and run them in SLi. Probably gonna need a 1000w power supply for sli. A 580 under full load is gonna push 300-400 watts depending on the card.

Well it's not a complete system I'm keeping the case, power supply and harddrives. If you want the MOBO, memory, processor a video card. How about $175.00? If you want the complete system with the Antec 900 case and power supply and hard drive make me an offer. The current video card is a Evga gtx275 but I also have the 8800gts laying around here some where.

that system is overkill... your current system just needs 2 gigs more ram, maybe a slightly beter video card

my current LAPTOP is nvidia 9800 GTS
                            4GB ddr2 800 ram
                            500GB Hybrid SSD/HDD
                            2.13ghz core 2 duo

I can run crysis 2, Space Marine, Dead Island, all at high settings at about 20-30fps

if i lower the settings i get liek 30-60
