I am upgrading my Alienware m17x with 16GB of 1600mhz RAM and a 120GB HyperX SSD. I hear there could be BSOD issues with the new drive, but well see soon enough. I was curious if anyone else had some projects or were looking at doing something to their current setup.

Good choice on the GPU. I've also heard good things with the soundblaster cards. Especially with respect to the laptop versions.Comment

Going to upgrade my AMD 7850 black stable OC'd to 3.2 ghz to a phenom 2 x6 1055T which I will OC to 4.2 ghz once the price comes down after the new 8 cores come out.
Also upgrading my 4 gigs of 1033 ddr2 to 8 gigs of 1600 ddr3 when I swap out the cpu.Comment

look at benchmarks. GHz is an almost entierly irrelevant marketing gimmick.

Sandforce (2281) is also unstable right now do to rushed drivers. But the HyperX SSD has turned out real nice. The same goes for their HyperX PnP 1600mhz RAM. I'm currently running both at the moment.
As for pricing, you can grab the 120GB SSD for $200 after a $30 rebate through Amazon. I was looking at the M4 until I compared read/write speeds. Also, the M4 doesn't support TRIM which can be a big deal for reliability long term.
HK- So when are the first octa-cores coming out anyway? I presume AMD will be the first.Comment

"Also, the M4 doesn't support TRIM"
Completely wrong. M4 same speed as SF2281 after 009 firmware with zero reliability problems, the same can not be said for SF.
M4 128GB @$174 > HyperX 120GB @$200
Don't take my word for it, do your research.Comment

Upgraded my old card to GTX460 (Prepping for BF3!)
Upgrade my 80GB SSD to 160GB SSD. (Win7 + MS Office +Adobe Creative Suite CS4 _ other programs leaves me w/ 5GB of free space on the 80GB)
The 80GB is going in my Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo which is currently my GF's web browsing machine.Comment

i like toms hardware as well
they would need to be same generation and same class - at which point you can just look at the price.

Need to upgrade my HD4670 to something more modern. Maybe GTX 570. I will wait to hear from people what BF3 demands.
Apart from that a surround sound system and SSD could not hurt, but they can wait.Comment
