laptop not autosensing bigger monitor (switch between home/work)

so i got a 27" at home that i use 1920x1080 (love the real estate!). but i switch between home and work and at work, I only have a 19". (no, they won't give me a 27" either LOL).

each time i switch back and forth, i can't get 1920x1080 @ home. option is not even listed. i have to re-install the driver yet again, reboot, just so i can see 1920x1080 option. i think and if i recall correctly, switching between just pure laptop screen (no other monitor output) to my 27" works just fine and it automatically goes to 1920x1080.

i reinstalled all drivers and are correct ones. i'd love to reformat yet again, but i don't feel this is the correct solution as i'll still see it. there are no monitor drivers that i know of (19" is HP monitor; 27 is planar).

thoughts? most web topics from searches are about not being able to get to 1920x1080. i see some topics on widescreen to standard sized monitors (switching) but not much luck there either.

i can't understand why the laptop is not recognizing an already working 1920x1080 resolution when i get home. rather it asks for the drivers again and a reboot before it gives it. no installs done at 19" monitor @ work. same tyep of 9-pin (or so) connector to both monitors.

before shutting down, either at work or home, switch back to the laptop screen, might clear up it's "confusion" of switching directly from one external monitor to another

hmm... good option.. i guess i just have to undock prior to shutting down, hoping at least booting up to the 19" monitor doesn't make any s/w or driver setting changes.

still makes me wonder what is driving the permanent change though.

        They gave you a 27" widescreen .....I still got a 19" square.

edit: no problems going from laptop screen to LCD here, both running at different rez.

you can make multiple hardware profiles that you can switch between. one for home, one for work.

Hell no!!!! Them?!? Give me a 27"? LOL I was on a "special" list to even get a 19" 4 or 5 years ago or so. Man, I was so stoked to get an "LCD" screen back in the day along with a select few.

27" out of my own pocket, and only cuz I'm a cheap bastard since it was on a really good sale price.

I got a 19" at office.. hence I have these issues on being unable to get 1920x1080 when i boot up @ home. some s/w i use doesn't seem to work as well unless i boot up from scratch in the network. like office comm never seems to synch up and i lose all the IM chat from being saved in outlook. hence booting from scratch @ work but i do shut down completely also.

p.s. we'll see the bullet button and 10-rd max mags go away before i get that kind of real estate. LOL

i'm going to have to try that. thanks nose! hopefully something easy w/o messing with my NT profile. i remember back on w2k, there was even an ability to have network profiles or so when booting up, or something like that back in early 2000s.
