    Xoom or Galaxy 10.1???

I'm thinking of ditching my netbook (HP310) in favor of one or the other. My provider is Verizon.

I can't seem to find out if the Xoom has the SD card available yet or if it's shipping with the 4GLTE yet. The galaxy seems to be ready to go. Not really looking at the Ipad.

The one thing I am going to miss is an ethernet connection that the netbook has. Neither one seems to have a usb NIC.

Do other carriers have other products? The contract is up at the end of the month.

last I heard, they started to swap em in June if you bought them when they first came out, but you're good to go as they are selling them right now with 4G pre installed on the xoom's but if I were you, go with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. It's an awesome tablet , and we have the wifi only version here , but with the 4G LTE, i think it's a shoe in for a consideration! Believe me, i never thought they would get the tablet thinner than the ipad, but it's is SUPER thin, thinner than the xoom! Plus the screen is just so much more crisp with the super AMOLED screen.

I really don't care for the fact that neither unit can be charged via a mini-usb connection....the Xoom requires a separate cord/power supply and the Galaxy has a proprietary 30 pin connection that you need to buy various adapters for. I was hoping to use the same charger as my phone.

The Galaxy can't even accept an expansion card without an adapter! My old netbook is looking better as I think this out.

According to the Verizon Rep I talked to today, it is at the stores now.

Not so fast, I just called a local store and was informed they are not available yet. Their corporate customer service was wrong. I think there is a free upgrade when it is available. Not sure if you need to send it back or it's just a software-push. I've heard it both ways.

One question, can you recharge from the USB or not? You are the 1st one I've talked with that actually has one.

nope, have to use a skinny charger. I have checked all the local stores and you can only get it at the Verizon stores.

Can I get the 4g lt upgrade since I am a corporate partner?

From what I've read, when it's available, you will have to:

                  1) Send it to Motorola since it is a hardware upgrade
                  2) It's a software upgrade that can be pushed to your tablet.

I've heard both scenarios from Verizon. The only thing they seem to agree on is that it will be free (less shipping if #1 is the way).

Like I said, my netbook is looking better all the time. Verizon now has LTE netbooks which in the long run, may just serve me better as I work from remote locations occasionally. I may try the gotomypc app on my phone to see if I like it.

If expandable memory via microsd is not a concern, the Galaxy 10.1 wins hands down.

                      Here's why:

                      thinner
                      lighter
                      better screen
                      4G LTE built in

For those that have purchased a Xoom already, they can now be sent to Moto for the hardware to make them 4G LTE compatible. New Xoom's sold will have the 4G LTE built in starting next week at corporate owned stores.

My recommendation if you are still on the fence...go down to your local corporate owned store and put each in your hand...see which you like better.

I got my father a 10.1 and it's great, but after prolonged use I prefer mini-tab 7-8" size. Easier to use, reduced screen size doesn't cause any problems in terms of navigation/use.

I would wait for the Galaxy 7.

Xoom all the way. I spoke in depth to a Verizon rep that was as much of a nerd as I am. The Xoom 3G comes with the Micro SD slot, and tell them you have a friend (ME) that got a free 32gb micro SD card with his purchase and you would like to get the same (That's a $129 value at their prices). Also, the reason to go with the 3G, the rep told me the 4G LTE Xoom will only come with 16gb of INTERNAL memory (unconfirmed info, ask this question when buying), whereas the 3G has 32gb of internal memory, plus the additional micro SD card slot which you can throw a 64gb card in there if you want. Try to get the iPad to do that. Apple loves to monopolize the memory market and not allow it's customers to upgrade their devices...without being forced to buy another one.

I personally love my Xoom. I won't bash the Galaxy, because I have never had one, but I saw one in person, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have an HDMI port (Galaxy owners, correct me if I'm wrong). This is the same HDMI port that is on the Droid X phones. I have an HDMI cord (find them CHEAP on Ebay) and can hook it up to my Plasma and see on the TV what is on my tablet. Perfect if you want to browse the internet or other apps on your (or anyone else's HDTV) 60" TV. LOVE this feature!!

I have a Xoom and have spent some time with a Galaxy Tab. Unless you get a great deal I'd wouldn't buy a Xoom now. They're certainly close to being replaced with the Xoom 2. The Xoom 4G upgrade is still listed as "soon" but as of now none are available except for a small test group of Verizon employees. I've had mine since February so not really impressed with Motorola/Verizon speed on this. It will be free some day but so far hasn't happened

As of now unless you install 3rd party software the SD card is read only from within Android. You can copy files from your pc to it but android itself can't change them. It can read them however so most people are just copy media files to the sd for playback. Incidentally 64gb cards won't work in the xoom.

It's not a bad device but it definitely feels first generation. It's much heavier and bulkier than either the Galaxy or the iPad. The Galaxy is more comfortable to use if you don't mind the loss of a read only SD card slot. I prefer android to iOS but honestly if you want a tablet these days the iPad is still the better solution.
