    Ripping DVDs - NOT PIRACY

Okay, so I've got two TVs, but only one blu-ray player. I do, however, have a set-top media player box. I've also got a cubic *** load of DVD's, many of which were purchased when our local Blockbuster went out of business, so they're loaded up with copy protection.

What I'd like to do is rip them onto the media player box, so that I can watch them in the bedroom instead of moving the blu-ray player around all the time. (No, I'm not just going to buy another one. I spent a **** load of money on this media player thingy, and be damned if I'm going to just go backwards and get a POS DVD player again.)

Any suggestions on software to use? DVD-Shrink and DVD Fab both seem to get partway into it and then they just hang up and stop responding.

i thought for handbrake, you still needed something to rip it.

i have slysoft anydvdhd. then i use a bunch of tools to compress to bd-25.

i'm very p/o'ed the expensive blurays i bought are scratched up (like panda) from mishandling. so now.. they want to watch? use the backup. bd-25 ain't too bad and just $2/disk or so.

i try not to just put on an external drive and stream. hdd is still more expensive imho than bd25

I use dvdfab8 right now to rip the media and then handbrake to encode it for what I want. You can get a bluray down from 30-40gb to 5-10gb and still have it look good and not take up all of your hd space.

For dvd ripping, I use "Anydvd" to decode/decrypt the dvds, it sits in the taskbar doing its thing. And "CloneDVDmobile" to actually rip the movie into a playable video file. It allows you to pick what resolution you want and the quality too.

Both of those programs can be purchased at slysoft.com

It depends on the format your player likes. Some like .MKV, some prefer .ISO, and a few only play .VOB. I hate Handbrake but MakeMKV does a pretty good job with making MKV files from DVDs. AnyDVD (or AnyDVD HD) rips to ISO or VOB. I'm not real fond of MKVs and AnyDVD HD is stupid easy to use.
