    Buying a new computer. Suggestion?

    Yo!

I'm looking at Dells XPS studio system. If I go with dell, what would you recommend?

Alienware right now doesn't seem so good. Constant complaints on their forums of product breaking, etc has me worried.

    Budget $3,000, specs?

Buy parts and build one yourself. Also, we can't suggest anything without you telling us what you plan to do with that machine. Storage? Internet surfing? Gaming? Video editing?

Why do you want it? Studio screams MAC to me.

Not much of a tech guy so I buy the pre-built towers. I guess also because of the warranty which so far, dell has been good with my last tower.

ok, shell out on the video card (better yet two), other things are less important.

If gaming, build it yourself. Myself and tons of others on this forum can spec out a computer build for you, and it would cost you a 1/3 of the price that a pre-built gaming system would cost you, and perform just as well, if not 2x better. Not to mention you'll also have overclocking capabilities to future proof your computer.

^ exactly. What kind of gaming do u do? RTS? FPS? MMORPG?

Genearlly you need no more than 8 gigs of ram, 120 GB SSD drive is a must, processor is either Intel i7 or AMD Bulldozer. If you don't want to go all out on the CPU (given that even most demanding games struggle to stress high end CPUs to 50% of their capacity) then settle for an i5 quad core or a Phenom II X4 quad core.

Video card is where you want to drop some heavy bucks if you are an avid gamer. With your budget, I suggest getting 2 AMD 6970's and crossfiring them. If you don't mind spending $1100+ then 2 GTX 580's

man, $3,000 is a nice budget for a system. Even better if a new monitor isnt needed.

                      $3,000 is a hell of a budget!
                      Get one of these! :P
Get twice as much as you'd pay for an Alienware!
