Tethering lap top to Sprint EVO Android

Does anyone have a working solution for tethering my new Toshiba Satellite to my current Sprint EVO to be able to get on the 3G network with my lap top via Sprint without adding a new account? Thanks.

Download an app called PDAnet from the android market if you want to just plug the phone in to your laptop. If you want to turn the phone into a wifi hotspot you will have to root your phone if you don't want to pay extra to use the stock app.

You need to root your phone first. Check out Unrevoked. The procedure may be a little bit technical, but once you done it you can use wireless tether to your laptop, it basically become wireless hotspot w/o having to pay Sprint $30/mo for their hotspot function.

I think you are correct. It's easier than rooting the phone but rooting does allow for more customization and removing bloatware that Spring/HTC stuff on the handset, amongst other benefits. It is a bit technical but a nice option.

                pdanet is a wired tether.

rooting unlocks free wireless tether, that costs $30 a month through sprint regularly.

I don't have Sprint or Android, but I have a little device made by Cradlepoint that connects and charges the phone and provides a wifi hotspot, great for those long drives, hotels, etc. Not as easy as running an app, but doesn't run down the battery either.

Wrong, you can do it without via PDAnet or easytether.

I could deff root though. Luckily, the EVO is one of the most developed platforms as far as android phones go. Get a nice cleaned up rom, stay away from overclocking unless you know what your doin, and go to town!

Toss me a PM if you have any odd questions about rooting/roms. Im a VZW guy, but HTC phones in general are my thing!
