Would you buy a PS3 on ebay?

I've been wanting to get a Bluray player for the bedroom and decided that I might as well get a PS3 so I have all of the other stuff (netflix, hulu+, etc). I was looking at the Black Ops Bundle and they are mostly sold out online, but there are a few ebay sellers who have them listed for around the same price as the regular 160gb model goes for ($299). I have heard of people having issues and was wondering what your experience has been with your PS3. I have an XBOX 360 and have never had a rrod issue, but you never know.

    What say you?

If it's not a used system you should be fine. People were selling PS3's on eBay that had been blacklisted from PSN a while back.

I got mine from Ebay. Got it for $200 and it is the backwards compatible one. Killer deal. Lately it has been giving me a bit of a problem in the scene selection menu when playing DVDs will sometime crash to the PS3 start screen and very rarely freezes during Black Ops. Other than that it works perfect 99.99999% of the time.

ditto what jday said, i'd be weary if it's used, but if it's brand new then you should be ok, and just make sure it's a reputable ebay seller

do not buy a used "fat" model, I would even be weary of a used slim model.

Here is a site that lists the different model numbers.

Gamescom is in a month, and there should be a price drop announced(which should bring down ebay prices as well).....if you can hold off a little longer.

I've done a lot of ebay over the years, I just get nervous about things that are prone to breakage or things that could break in transit. I have been a member since the 90's

Actually, I was going to suggest that he buy the "fat" model because it's the only one backwards compatible with PS2 games. (Damn you Sony!) And there's nothing wrong with buying a used PS3. I bought a a used one and it's been working fine for years now, whereas, my BRAND NEW XBOX 360 died within a week of purchasing it. (Damn you Microsoft!)

Just make sure the seller has a good score and you shouldn't have any problems. (And of course, make sure you ask questions about the condition of the unit.)

I would never buy a used console, they could be passing **** to you and sometimes you'll never get a refund.

I absolutely hate purchasing any kind of electronics on eBay. They don't really have a quality control measure aside from seller's ratings. IMO Craigslist is a much better platform to use to make purchases on used products. If you go through Craigslist you can test the product out, you guys can work out a fair price, and the seller doesn't lose a percentage.
