PC won't go into standby mode (in this house only)

Maybe one of you fellows can help me with this.

My PC won't standby (now called "sleep" for some reason). If I open the Start menu and click "Sleep," it'll go into sleep mode, but then come back out again instantly.

I used to think it was a problem with my PC, but recently I stayed at a friend's house for an extended period of time, and brought it with me. Over there, it did standby mode just fine. When I brought it back home, the problem resumed.

I'm running Windows 7, and the house in question was built in the '60s.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks so much, in advance.

Sometimes I can't go to sleep either if the house is too warm or noisy.

Try updating or shutting off your wireless on your laptop, bad driver can prevent it from sleeping.

some devices can cause that problem, you can go into device manager and normally disable the option for the items individually look for the option named something such as "allow this device to wake the computer" and and disable it for the network card and the mouse/touchpad.

another thing to check is the current power profile and the settings for the individual profiles within the control panel.

also some software may cause problems with standby such as those that are used for file/folder sharing and sometimes windows media player.
