Help with USB connection to upload pics.

I have been working on this for a few hours now and can't seem to figure it out. I'm trying to upload pics from my Nixon 800 Cool Pics digital camera so I can sell a couple rifles but am stuck. I used to have no problem, I would plug the connection cable in with the camera chip card and Microsoft Setup Wizard would come up automatically and I would start the process of downloading my pics. Now a window comes up when I plug it in saying unknown device....so I went to trouble shoot and finally went to control panel and found the setup wizard for uploading pics and went through the process and got it all set for the Nixon camera....and it still wouldn't work.

All that said does anyone have any advice on how to get these pics uploaded? I'd really like to get them on my thread, I think it ads much more substance to someones thread when they have actual pics.

Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port?
Have you tried another USB cable?
Do you have any other USB devices you can try and see if they have the same issue?
Is there any other devices currently plugged into any other USB ports?
Have you tried restarting the computer?
    Done any Windows updates lately?

You don't really need the Wizard, you can just select the option to View/Open file and then just drag and drop the pictures from your camera to a folder on your computer.
Don't let the name fool you...

First, don't use the camera/cable method to download your photos. Use a simple USB 2 card reader. Remove the card from the camera and insert into the reader. Plug the reader into the computer. It's far faster and will appear like any other USB external drive. Right-click on the card/drive and select OPEN (to view files), select the files and drag into your photo management program.

When the copy is done, remember to EJECT the card/drive before removing the card or USB card reader from the USB port. And don't forget to return the card to the camera. It's also smart to FORMAT the card (in the camera, not the computer) rather than simply erase. This improves reliability and helps avoid card corruption. You may also want to set your camera so it won't "shoot" without a card present inside the camera. That's a common menu item.
