PC repair Santa Rosa/ Windsor area

Any recommendations? I drove by Office Depot and I saw that they had sign out advertising computer repair but my experience with their staff in the past doesn't fill me with confidence.

Geek Squad is okay but tend to be expensive for mundane stuff. Also not so great on giving advice for upgrades/ improvements.

Mostly I just want my PC cleaned up a bit and get some advice on upgrades to keep it going...or tell me if it due for the dust bin.

If you donate the money that you would have spent to the CGF, I'll come up and take a look for you.

Been doing this for 12 years, so I'm likely a little more qualified than Office Depot and Best Buy put together

the 3/4 year rule works for most main stream pc's but My dad's old Q6600 (@ 3.8ghz) with 4gb of ram and a gtx 470 (was 8800gtx) works Ok

for this reason I don't tell people to toss it until i see the actual specs...some people did spend good money on a machine 3 or 4 years ago

When did you buy the computer? If the computer is about 5 years, then I would consider buying a new computer. Do you know what the specs of the computer? How many people use your computer? (Single user or Multiple user). Does it have windows XP, Vista, or Win 7? If it a Vista machine, then you still can upgrade some hardware!

              100% true.

I have an older system I use regularly, and it is still plenty powerfull.
It wont hold up to a new high end ($800+ system) but does everything I need.

Granted, Ive upgraded a bit on it.

A good rule is to upgrade when there is something that is three times faster than what you currently have.

Example: Intel Core 2 Duo E5200 to E8600, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Q6700, Q8400, Q9450, Q9550 or Q9650 to an Intel i5 OR i7 = No on upgrade! Max out your RAM to 4GB to 8GB and if it still slow add a SSD HDD from Intel 80GB or higher on storage space.

Most people fail to realize that the Intel Core 2 Quad series are still great processers! Windows 7 rate them over 7.0

^^^ I agree, i have a Q6600 and 2 gigs of ddr3 and a older 8800gtx card and have no reason to upgrade. The games i currently play run just fine.
OP what are your system specs also what do you use your computer for? My dad had a Dell that he used for close too 10 years and the only thing i upgraded was ram and HD. It all depends what you use your PC for. Maybe all you need is a small upgrade like ram or HD and a clean reinstall?
