    Direct TV

Does Direct TV HDTV DVR actually need to be connected to the internet? What features do I lose out on by not having it hooked up?

I've never said this to anyone here this before, but doesn't your keyboard have a period? That was pretty difficult to get through.

If you can't connect your Directv box back to them, either via internet or landline, the only way you will be able to order PPV or other specialty programming is to call them.

      Being north of
70 has definite advantages: I was able to do all my stupid stuff before video cameras, smartphones, utube, and the internet.

My older one is just connected to the land line.
Everything else seems to need internet for all the features now days. My TV is online, DVD, iTV ,Stereo receiver..

If you hook it up to the internet the internet connection replaces the dial up. Updates are faster and seem more often. The real pay off for it being connected to the internet is being able to do "On demand". Basically download stuff and watch. Just about every channel has a "on demand" channel with content to download. Its free, just got to plug it in to the internet. Go to channel 1200 (I think) in the guide and scroll through the channels and content.

You do not have to have it connected to a phone line or the INTERNET. Some features will simply not work. PPV and the On Demand portion are all the items that will not work.

Although you can still order PPV via the website or by phone.
