You can look at Easy Tether Lite.

Only way I know (which I use often)...

-You need to root your phone. Google "rooting (your phone model here)" to see how to root it.

-Once rooted, you can use the app called "Android Wireless Tether". Note, your google-fu needs to be strong on this one, it can be hard to find.

-Download Android Wireless Tether to your PC, then transfer it to your phone. You can put it anywhere on the SD card.

-Install an app from the market called "App Installer." Run it, and find the .apk file (mine says wireless_tether_2_0_5-RC2.apk) and tap on it to install

-Enjoy using your phone as a hot spot, under your provider's radar.

This is all summed up. It took me awhile to get my phone rooted using various methods, also took me a while to find the tether app. I actually have the app saved on my phone, I could email you the file.

ETA: My post is assuming you'd like this service to be free.

rooting my phone is proving to be a royal PITA, I upgraded my fryo and ther is a new encryption befor the firmware will accept a root and i am told there is a possibility of corrupting my ESN, so i need to back that up first

I got really sick of unstable, unreliable BS tethering hacks so I bit the bullet and bought PDANet.

No root required, it's really not that expensive when you consider what you get out of it, and it works really well.

That thing on your sig line is really freaking me out. I even changed computers, and it was correct both times.

Try easy tether. It doesn't require you to root your phone. It comes with a free trial app and the full version is a one time $10 cost. I have family memebers who use and recommend it

I use Wireless Tether.. VZW removed it from the market, but you can side load it direct from the dev.

PDA-net as well as they had/have a free version no? I think it limits https access though as went I went Wireless Tether I never went back. Barnacle is one as well. I have used both.

Yes, I am rooted of course

Biggest issue now is that companies like VZW are able to block the tether and redirect you to a page that warns you not to and asks you to buy into their additional cost option to use tether.
