    Yahoo Email Virus

So I seem to have picked up some kind of virus on one of my Yahoo mail accounts. It sent out spam email to those on my address book. I ran full updated scans on my PC with AVG, SpyBot, and the new Microsoft antivirus program. Scans were done while running in Safe mode. The results were no infections.

I also changed my email password and am now waiting to see if the problem continues.

if anyone has additional advice, please let me know.

Download and run MBAM on there. It is also possible that a keylogger on another computer captured your password, or even a network sniffer on an infected machine on your home network.

Download free antivirus: easy install for all devices. Remove unwanted malware like viruses, ransomware, spyware & more.

Download Hitman Pro 3.5 ... it's free for 30 days and will remove a virus if found. I had a trojan that none of the major brand antiviruses were able to detect. Hitman pro found it and removed it.

So, I forgot to mention that I had also scanned my computer with MalwareByte and it detected no threats. I downloaded Hitman and ran that and came up empty as well. I did delete all of my address book entries, so unless they are logged somewhere, that should put an end to it.

I guess my question is if this was really a breach of Yahoo Mail and they are covering it up like the tend to do with tech problems.

Try Advanced System Care as well. I recently installed it and it found stuff that MB did not. You can get the Free version of Adcanced here at CNET.

By the way I have been getting those emails as well.

Most of them have RE: in the Subject line but nothing else then a link to a bad site I would imagine. I do not know for certain since I did not click it.

This just F-ed up my computer after using it. I can no longer see all images on sites. Some are displayed and some are not.

Has not caused me any issues and I have it installed on 5 computers. In fact all of them are now run better. Did you by chance turn on the turbo boost feature? If so if you read the review it says not to use it as it can cause some issue with shutting things off that you may want to use. You should only be using the Quick Clean or Deep Clean portion of it.

Did you bother to read any of the info prior to installing it?

Also what sites are you having issue at? I will go and see if my computer acts up.

One part of the program we recommend new users avoid, or at least use with extreme caution: the Turbo Boost. Turbo Boost will disable core system services in an attempt to accelerate your computer's performance. Some of these include Windows Update and keyboard hot keys, and we wish that this section of the program was more explicit about how it can affect your computer.

To its credit, though, Advanced SystemCare Free includes a Rescue point creation tool, so it's not hard to undo changes if you've had the foresight to make a rescue point. A smaller problem is that some of the program's options open in new windows, while others open in the same window. Those in the same window have convenient back-navigation buttons in the upper left; those in new windows are sometimes overlaid directly on top of the previous window and make it hard to see how to return to the previous screen.

I do not think getting hacked is the issue. Since my son ran all the virus and adware programs all the fake emails have stopped. It was adware or spyware.

My bad. I assumed the yahoo acct was a yahoo webmail acct. one of my friends with a yahoo acct was sending me links to blocked sites and suspicious attachments. the intervals I was receiving them were random. I had cleaned his pc and nothing was found. The only thing I could think of was that his account was hacked. I told him to change his password and sure enough the emails finally stopped. I have yet to encounter a virus or trojan that sends out stuff via someones webmail. Glad to hear your issue was resolved. I know they can be a pain. Hopefully the OP's problems are fixed as well.

This also happened to me on one of my older hotmail accounts that I dont use anymore. Also happened to a friend of mine on their hotmail account. So it doesnt appear to be just Yahoo. I changed my password and moved on.

Yeah it appears as though some of these issues may indeed be hacked accounts
Although that was not the case for the issues my son was having.
                              His was a spyware issue.
