Apple iPad 2 or Samsung Galaxy 10.1???

Non biased opinions please.... Lets stay on topic.

I love both apple and android, but as of now, im leaning towards the android galaxy. What you guys think?

iPad was great when it first came out, but now, the android tablets are actually more advanced than the ipads IMO. What you guys think?

I have an iPad, the wife has an iPad 2. They are real nice. The iPad 2 added enough to make it worth getting over an iPad. I have not messed around with android other than rooting my wife’s Nook color. That was interesting but the results were less than satisfying. A couple of days ago I decided to get an android tablet so I could see how they run and compare to the apple pads.

I bought the Acer Iconian. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Once I got the feel of android (Honeycomb) I was pretty much sold on it. The 1gig dual core processor runs all the apps smooth as silk. The Acer took less than 5 minutes to root so that opened up some restrictions that Acer had on it.

While apple does have more available apps, about half of them are variants of fart noise machines or other stupid ideas. I have found the amount of usable apps for android to be pretty good.

As much as I like my iPad it is now going to live in the kitchen filled with cookbooks and other domestic things. The android feels a lot less restrictive than the iOS does.

That's exactly what I was thinking.... the new androids this year on the tablets are pretty amazing compared to last year.
I love the fact that android allows the user to custom the interface and all the extra options it has. The first tablet at the time was the leader, but can't say that it is now... I feel like most ipad2 users bought them this time more of a fad rather than testing anything else beforebtheir purchase...

And yet almost nothing was changed.

My cousin says the same... He has the ipad and told me that there's nothing on the ipad2 that makes him want to spend money and call it an upgrade....

Like I said, the iPad 2 had enough changes to make it worth it to me to buy one. My wife wanted it for the facetime alone. It makes it real nice to be able to have a large screen to get some video time with our grandson in Alaska. The other "almost nothing has changed" changes listed are not insignificant. But there are so many anti-apple/anti-windows people who have nothing better to do than whine about the product they don't like there will always be unneeded posts in threads like this.

I personally don't like apple as a company, and don't like their computers but the iPod, iPad and iPhones I really like. I can bash windows machines with the best of them. Don't get me started on Dell and HP crap.

Bottom line is I bought an iPad expecting it to be a real waste of money. I was wrong. I really like it. The iPad 2 was well worth it just because my wife likes it and it's "almost nothing has changed" changes. But, after using it for a week or so now the android tablet I have is my favorite. I know the OP is asking about the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and mine is the Acer Iconian. The hardware in both of these android tablets is about identical.

I went to a local store and played with the Acer iconian. Not as smooth asbthe apple but looks very good IMO. Do u know if all other android tablets are just as responsive as the Acer?

BTW.... I agree with you. HP and dell = crap

Are you looking to hear what people have to say about the hardware or the software (Android vs. Apple)?

I only have limited experience with Apple OS but never was impressed by it. It was very smooth, visually pleasing, and function - but, to me, Android can do everything the Apple OS does and even better much of the time. I also agree that Android "feels" far less "constrained" versus just about any Apple product. Apple has a history of being very authoritarian when it comes to how their customers are allowed to use the devices they buy. Keeping my Ipad mini (aka Ipod Touch) jailbroken felt like a constant battle and time sap.

You could have bought a 17" laptop for less and still had a nice large screen, or even a new computer for that matter. And you wouldn't have to hold it up while you use it. Sure you can get a stand for the iPad, but that is one of Apples ways of milking more money out of you.

All the new ones should be plenty responsive. Especially the ones that have the Tegra 2 processor.

From what I have read on the android tabs the Iconian runs almost identical hardware to the other 10.1 tablets and is quite a bit cheaper.

I have a 17" laptop and she has an 18" laptop. But they more expensive than the iPad 2 since they are both gaming machines. The Apple iPad 2 case is just a plain ripoff. I got her a nice leather folder case for it that stands up in landscape and portrait. I could have gotten her any number of things instead of the iPad 2 but that is what she wanted. She has never complained about any of the toys I have bought over the years so when she wants something she gets it.

                          Acer Iconia FTW!!!

The 3.0 Honeycomb is sweet and will be even sweeter with the 3.1 update coming up in a bit (June).

                            This is my professional opinion:

Buy an iPad two if you can afford it. If not get an iPad one refurbished from Apple for $350 http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB...co=MjEzNzcyOTk
Stick with the WiFi version unless you have a very specific need. The iPad two is faster with better graphics, better built, lighter and the camera adds good value for use as a communications platform.

The only win for Android is if size is your "Primary" issue.

iPad has a MUCH bigger install base. All of the major software devs are targeting the iPad and are not even looking at Android. Yes, even with Honeycomb now out.

I like Android. I have two android phones. I'm a fan. But for tablets, it's iPad hands down. And I am NOT a Mac fan. The wife is but not me, I'm a PC

As I have mentioned in the past, I work in the video game industry. I am the COO for an independent studio that does high end tech work for every major game developer. I can tell you without a doubt that of the publishers that are looking at mobile app development it is all on the iPad first and then only maybe on the android, if at all.

You can hear opinions from all sorts of people but when it comes to this type of subject I am E.F. Hutton. When I talk people listen. And that is because I am privy to the business plans of million and even billion dollar companies. If you want a full break down of what is different about the iPad two and why it is better then the original iPad I'll be happy to spell it out for you. Or you can make it easy on both of us and just take my word for it.

I'm not trying to brag, I don't have to. I'm just hoping to squelch all of the "Oh, well I heard from my brothers, girlfriends, sister's, cousin" responses.

As to the zdnet article. I did read it and yes, there is nothing so new on the iPad 2 that would make me run out and buy one if I already had an iPad, there is certainly enough there to make you want to buy one if you don't though. Or if you really like games or other graphic intensive applications.
