Who thinks Macs are secure?
Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

That "retard" comment says more about the poster than anything I might offer.
So, moving on to more constructive content, ALL computers need some sort of decent security. ESET, VirusBarrier and even Norton (which hopefully is not a repeat of its first OS X software failures) and more. There are even free versions of most. Whatever you use, do NOT believe that software alone will protect you from your own boneheaded surfing behavior. If you disregard all of the warnings that Apple has built into its own security, you can expect problems to happen. Beware of websites for children's games and porn for malware.

when the apple OS has a market share even in the same ballpark as Windows, then you can start chuckling. till then, wallow in the fact that apples prosperity comes from mobile devices, not workstations.
dude the mac hardware is tits. the macbook pro is one of the fastest windows laptops on the market.

before MSE, i didnt run any AV at all because the benefits never outweighed the costs (performance). if you are a smart user, you dont need AV.That "retard" comment says more about the poster than anything I might offer.

They're less secure because the security model on them is junk, their ALSR model is a joke. The entire Mac security model relies on security through obscurity, figuring that since they have such a small market share nobody will bother with them. This is the reason why they're always the first to get hacked at competitions such as Pwn2Own. Just look at this years results.

Can you back this up with any fact? The fact is that current versions of Windows are far more secure, especially the 64-bit versions. This is backed up by many of the top security researchers in the field.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

Mac vs PC is soooooooo 1980's....nothing to see here move alongComment

If the OS has a decent security model (which OS X is lacking), these tools become much less important. Windows Vista/7 64-bit have a very good security model, which is why you'll rarely find one of those systems infected. This is also the reason that I recommend that people install the 64-bit version (32-bit software runs just fine), since the 32-bit versions can not take advantage of all the security features in 64-bit processors. That "retard" comment says more about the poster than anything I might offer.

Sure, if you do not mind not being able to replace your battery. Not to mention the insane price markup on their laptops. Lets also not forget that unless you buy one right when they refresh the line you'll likely be getting outdated hardware (they were still selling Core 2 Duo based MacBooks until the new ones came out).Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison
