I'm trying to create an Android app. Basically what I want to do is turn a pdf into an app. That's it. I have downloaded Eclipse and all the SDK/JDK/etc. that I'm assuming I need. Can anybody help me out and/or point me in the direction of a template or guide that I can use to build an app? I am not a novice with computers (I can do some HTML) but I have never tried Java or C++ or any kind of programming. If one of you guys can get me going I feel confident that I can keep it going, but as it stands I don't know anything about Java.

I dont want to create an app that is a pdf reader-- as an example, the army survival manual is an available app. It is set up fairly simply, a contents page that is clickable and takes you to whichever section you want to read. You go to that section and just scroll down the document. I dont know if it was all typed by hand or if the guy scanned it or what, but it has all accompanying figure drawings from the manual, eg how to make a bow for starting a fire. Im looking to do something with the same type of layout but if i can avoid having to type out the whole thing and instead use a pdf that would be ideal.Proud undocumented illegal American living in the People's Republic of Kalifornia.Comment

Go to the Android developer web page and get the tutorial running on the emulator in Eclipse. The Android emulator is not very fast, so have some patience.
Then when you get the hang of getting the debugger to run on the tutorials...

You might want to learn Object Oriented Programming first. I know they make writing Android and iPhone apps look simple, but you do need to have a firm grasp on general programming concepts. I'm well versed in C/C++ and Java, and still had to go read up on Objective C to play around with iPhone Dev.

Yeah, I took a year in Java and holy cow was that intense. Lots of all nighters and that was just writing simple applications that did nothing really useful. You can buy a book and then do all the example applications in it. Basically, you have lots of homework ahead of you before you are going to be able to bang out what you want.My Guns:

The java classes I heard are hard core...I'm in the same boat with the op. Would like to program some simple stuff for personal use but lack the direction to do so. This summer I enrolled in an intro to programming class. I know it's probably useless in terms of programming as the class is not language specific but it's the concepts I'm after.Yeah, I took a year in Java and holy cow was that intense.
