    User Profile Copying Windows 7

So it seems I have been humbled...

I am attempting to help my friend with his laptop.

He has an account on it that has all his stuff. However, he wishes to rename the user folder name.
I created the separate profile with his name, then went to:

    System>Advanced Settings>User Profile Settings

It lists the profiles on the laptop, among which are Default, the old profile, and the new profile.

Normally it is possible to choose the old profile, and click the "Copy to..." icon to choose the new profile. And theoretically voila! All the data and settings etc should be transfered to the new profile.

The problem is that the option is greyed out.

Windows 7; I've fiddled around with administrative privilege, sharing etc to no avail.

I've googled the issue and thus far nothing has worked. I was wondering if anyone here had a work around they'd like to share.

    Thanks!

That changes the general user name, but not the user profile folder name

        Windows Enabler 1.1

I've used it at work. Create the user profile you want to use and then login to another user profile with admin privilege. Follow the directions. It will ungrey the option and you can click on it. Make sure you give him the user privilege to use the profile.

I've used this mostly on domain computers at work. Back up everything because it does delete everything from the old profile.

Want to fix corrupted user profile in Windows 7? The user profile is set of settings that make the computer work and look the way you want. The desktop

This is basically the steps you need to take to fix a corrupt user profile but should get what you want done.
When I get home to my W7 system I will have a look see. Last time I did it I didn't have anything grayed out. I am running Win7 32bit Ultimate Edition. I enabled the administrator account and did it all from there.
