Smartphone-will wifi work if no data plan?

I plan on taking my unlocked GSM android phone to Europe and getting a prepaid sim card there. Question: will the data functions work when I have wifi? I do not plan on purchasing a data plan there...

It depends on what data you are looking for. But for using the internet and most everything, yes it will.

Your internet experience will be the same when you are on WiFi. Use the same browser you always have. You will also still have access to your apps and the market.

Everything should be fine , but you might have issues with Skype. I tried to use Skype over WiFi it wouldn't work on my Droid incredible. It wanted to run on cell data. I don't know if its phone specific. I haven't used it in a while so a update might have fixed it. You might want to look into it.
