Internet providers in 91214

I just moved to 91214 and transferred my ATT phone and DSL service to the new house. A good friend also lives in the same ZIP code. He didn't think ATT had DSL service in the neighborhood. He uses Charter Cable for the internet.


I just tested my ATT connection with Speedtest.net and it was 0.56Mbps. That's my old dial-up advertised speed.

Any other options out there besides Charter and ATT?

Is that the basic service?...pay more for their Elite plan at 6.0 Mbps.
I hear calling customer service (good luck, with the AT&T hold...LoL) they will negotiate pricing.

I suggest you dump AT&T DSL like the plague. I've had a lot of experience with residential DSL service, and enterprise-level managed internet service provided by AT&T.

In both residential and business, you pay through the nose..and get a tiny amount of bandwidth. Customer service is just horrible...I've been stuck on hold for hours with both kinds of accounts, and it's damn frustrating. It's like AT&T customer service agents try to piss you off...that is unless you're calling to buy new service, or calling to cancel service (you end up speaking to accounts retention).

I tried to check service for you with other carriers, but you need the actual service address instead of just the zip code.

I suggest you start looking at some of these service providers to see if you are serviceable:

Charter (you already mentioned)
Comcast
Verizon FIOS
Sonic.net
Maybe AT&T UVerse....

Internet through cable (Comcast, Charter, Time Warner) is a pretty decent deal. You get a good chunk of bandwidth for anywhere from $25-50 a month.

I'm using ATT U Verse mid level.
Just tested at 11552 down, 1209 up.

Charter jacks up their rates endlessly....beware the sweet deal going in.
They were actually singled out as one of the worst cable providers a year ago on a MSN TV special.
