    Orange box

So, portal 2 came out, I thought it looked interesting, so today I went and bought the original portal (in the orange box) , just to see what all the fuss was about.

Portal: extremely entertaining, even though I beat it in 3 hrs

I then decided to try Half-Life 2... Oh my gosh, I think it is one of the most boring games I've ever played (only got past level 1). The real turn off of HL2 for me was the constant "story"... you would walk 10 ft and then another minute long story would start, and there's no way ( i know of) to FF, and I play video games for gameplay, not freakin stories... Also the gravity gun pisses me off

Am I being too harsh on HL2? Should I give it a second chance or not waste my time?

... The gravity gun pisses you off? Are you kidding me?! That's one of the coolest weapons/tools ever created in any video game in my opinion, along with the portal gun. Half life has always been about the story line. You get the full story if you thoroughly play through HL1, which is a very long game I might add. The story line is pretty awesome, and the gameplay is just as awesome.

Give it a second chance. It gets more and more epic, especially when you get to the first and second episodes (Expansions, sort of).

I just bought the orange box today also. I love half life 2. But I do think that the hoverboat segment is waaayyy to long but thats just my opinon.

I forgot about Portal being included in the box. I'll probably try it tomorrow sometime.

That's my only complaint with HL2, is the stupidly long hoverboat section. Got so repetitive and boring. Everything else is awesome stuff. Mini puzzles too.

HL2 was mind blowing when it came out. So was part one. It's a great game and has given much to the gaming community.

Yeah I played for over 3 hours today yet I'm still on the hover boat. I think I'm getting close though.

It seems much easier then the little bit I played when it first came out. I think that must just come with age.

without Hl1 and HL2, we wouldn't have Counter Strike, or Counter Strike: Source.

Meh. CS was fine, CS:S was crap imo. For that matter, every game that didn't have the aim down sights option was crap to me after it was introduced. What I really liked about CS 1.6 was the physics manipulation, and the different types of maps you could play, like surf maps and bunny hop maps. HL2 didn't seem to have as much freedom with the physics manipulation, but the advent of the gravity gun brought about puzzle maps for HL2M, which were really fun for a while.

Ok, so maybe I'll give it a second chance.

Uh wasting time is one of the best things about the game!

And a good story with great game play equals an awesome game.

If you're the kinda guy that things Gears of War or Halo is the epitome of gaming greatness, or you didn't get into gaming until you bought an X-Box, it really may not be your thing.

I'd actually recommend playing through Half Life before playing Half Life 2. If you complain about the graphics, you probably won't want to bother with HL2.

really, you beat all of Portal in 3 hours? Did you just get to the ramp that dumps you into the fire or did you actually make it to the end?

Half life and Half life 2 are, debatably, 2 of the best games in the history of video games. There are a couple points in the early hours of HL2 that will force you to stop for story segments. There are more later, but they are considerably shorter. The game will continually move through an on-foot shooter, to on foot puzzle, to vehicle sections throughout the game to keep it varied.

All I have is PC and N64, but I still like the more "action packed" games though. The graphics don't bother me at all in HL2, it's just it kind of drags on for me. Anyways, I just got home from work, so I'll give it another try since so many people like it.

I think it was about 3hrs for portal, I did get all the way to the end(destroy the machine), but I haven't beaten any of the bonus maps yet , those were a little harder

Nice. HL2 is worth your time, the story is pretty good as well. It makes a ton more sense if you beat the first one though. i might be a bad person to take opinion from though as i have an innate interest in physics and space-time.
