    Back to PC...Have a question...

I was an Apple user for 7 years. Switched back to PC. I have a laptop with OS Vista SP2. So whenever I restart my laptop a new folder would pop up on my desktop. Folder has no content in it. So when I delete it to recycle bin and empty the bin. I restart my laptop, "New Folder" would pop up. Is there an option to turn this off? If I leave the folder there and not delete it. Rebooting it will not create another New Folder(2). I performed Microsoft security essential. No virus found. Virus? Or there a feature to turn it off?
    Thanks for your help

If you right click on it, go to properties, on the general tab at the bottom under attributes, is "Read-only" ticked?

I clicked hide folder. So now when I create a new folder it's New Folder(2). How do I make New Folder(1) visible again.

Go to Control Panel, then Folder Options. Under the "View" tab there should be an option down the list a little ways titled "Hidden Files and Folders." Mark the dot that says "show hidden files and folders".

Now the folder should be visible on the desktop, just dimmed a little bit.

New folder is visible now. And when click read only tab to uncheck it, delete the folder and empty recycle bin. I restart laptop and it still pop up. Maybe I have a virus or something?

I'm kinda stumped now. It must be an installed program that is creating it upon startup...

Now that you have 'show hidden files and folders selected', is there anything in the folder?

The next step would be to look under Start button-->All Programs-->Start-up.
                  Anything there?

Then, it gets more complicated, and if you don't know what your doing, don't do anything. Okay that was a disclaimer

Under Start button, go to 'Run' and type 'msconfig'. Go to the start up tab, and look to see what is running upon start up. Maybe list what you have there and I'll see if anything catches my eye.

Okay, so googling your problem I saw one comment about a bluetooth application creating a folder everytime Windows restarted.

Untick the box for that in msconfig, hit apply and reboot. See if the folder appears and report back. You can always go back to msconfig and recheck the box so that it starts on boot, but don't just go unchecking anything

                          Glad it worked out!

If you don't use the bluetooth feature, then you are good to go, but, if you need that feature we might have to figure out why that program is doing that.
