    Ipad Opinions

I'm looking into getting an Ipad. My wife and I both have Iphones so we are both pretty familiar with Apple products.

    Anybody have one?

Can one recommend either the Wi-Fi or 3G version?

iPad ONE with Wi-Fi at Verizon store for $299, $399, and $499 if you don't need camera.

It is great, but the display resolution is not dense as the iPhone 4. Jailbreak it and have fun! Not sure if jailbreak is available on 4.3 yet, so get one with firmware 4.2.1 or below.

I have one. It is great for the way my wife and I use the internet at home. We have the Wi-Fi/3G version. It's nice to be able to have internet when you are out and about. My wife used it during a long road trip. However, it does come with a monthly bill. I know several people that use their iphones with jailbreak to gain internet access. But I don't know any of the details.

They're useful. The 3G version also has a GPS so it's useful even if you're not using 3G. It was a massive help with a hospital stay (3G but no WiFi) both in terms of boredom and in terms of answering longer emails that would be a pain on the phone, it's great for travel, our 2 year old can fully use it to fire up videos or play some kid games. Did I mention she was the one in the hospital? For five nights? Seriously, it was worth the cost just for that.

I'll also use it in places like the kitchen where a little flour will wipe off but if it got in a laptop keyboard, ugh, it'd be a nightmare.

All that being said, if you need a real laptop for whatever reason it's not a 100% replacement. But it's a whole lot nicer to use than a cheap laptop, and what it does, it does very well.

Got one for my wife instead of a Kindle.. love it.. originally got just the wifi version but exchanged it for the 3g version 32gig ( I think) love it.. the 3g is great for U.S travel but in Europe we used only wifi ( and had to pay daily for it) international 3g is wayyyyy $$$$.. It is 80% of what a laptop can do and much easier to use esp. in a crowded seat ( train/plane etc).. and Angry Birds a great way to pass the time on a 5 hour flight....

Just to let everyone know, I picked up the 32GB Ipad from Verizon. I got the Wi-fi only version. The 16GB was out. I paid $399 plus tax.

It is a present for my wife and I will see how she likes it. Depending on her experience, I may get the wi-fi only version or the wi-fi/3g.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know Verizon was having that sale so I really appreciate you guys letting me know about that.

If u buy the Verizon version are you obligated to sign up for their service? Does it work the same way as AT&T that if you need the 3G you can sign up directly on the iPad?

get the wi-fi, and tether it with your iPhone.

I got my iPad 2 verizon 64gb last week and it's pretty cool. I had no intention of buying one but this one was a gift so couldn't turn it down!

I really like web browsing with it even though I'd prefer it jailbroken like my iPhone 4. I am tethering to att through Bluetooth on my iPhone. The verizon contract is pay as you go $25/month if you want it. No contract and start and stop as you want.

There are still things it can't do so I carry my laptop as well but it's fun for playing.

I recently picked up 2 new (one is a month old, the other is a few days old) 1st gen 64GB WiFI iPads for $400 each. The guys really wanted to get an iPad2, so they dumped their 1st gens pretty cheap.

Depending on what you ultimately want to use it for, the 1st gen's are still very good and I wouldn't spend more on a 2nd gen unless you really much have the camera for video chatting or dual processers to run certain apps better.
