    Dear (Verizon) iPhone gurus....

Alrighty, so I'm finally eating crow and have decided to give up my Blackberry and AT&T. I want a Verizon iPhone. I'm already aware of not being able to get text's while you're on the phone. But I'd much rather have a network that works and doesn't drop my calls on a regular basis.

So, I'm ready to pull the trigger on my escape from AT&T soon. However, tell me why I should or shouldn't wait for the iPhone 5 before I make the jump. I'd like some honest, no BS info. I've heard the 5 is going to have a faster processor and better graphics. Just want to know if I'm really going to regret getting an iPhone 4 now instead of waiting for the iPhone 5.

    TIA for any info.

if you can, wait until its 4G, couple months. I have 3G, its great, fast...but 4G will be better.

It's been awhile since I have kept up with Apple.

But I don't doubt that a new Gen 5 will be out soon.

IMHO just wait for the new one. But from what I do know is that its a software / if not minor hardware difference from the ATT vs Verizon iPhones. TBH, What I see is a 'loophole' that apple can sell to other networks. One iPhone should work for them all in my book as much people pay for them. They should.

If they are both are on the same network type IE: CDMA vs GSM

Should work with a minor mod.

Don't do it. You will regret the move. It will cost you more money for a marginal speed increase.

My android smokes the Ifail4 in just about every aspect except the UI, which I'll give to apple. They do have a great UI.

However, my android is faster, has intergrated flash and can open just about every attachment.

There are even better phones coming in the next few months that put Apple products to shame.

I just got the new HTC Inspire 4G from ATT through costco for $20. After a few hours of dealing with the rooting package, I'm now fully unlocked and have removed all the att restrictions and bloatware.

If I test my phone on speedtest.net I get nearly 3200kbps up and 1300kbps down.

Not too shabby for a mobile phone.

So for $20 and a few hours of my time I have a phone that is nearly 2x as fast as an ifail4, I can change the battery if needed, I can add more memory and it's got a HUGE 4.3" screen.

I'll have to agree with the other android fan I just got the HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon and love it so fast and so much memory. Can't beat the HD quality 4.3inch screen with a 8mp rear camera and the 1.4mp front facing camera. It has just as many useful apps as Apple does and is 4g compatible.

AT&T-based iPhones use GSM protocol, which is used worldwide. You will be able to use it abroad. Verizon iPhones do not. If you have unlimited text and data plan with AT&T, then you may want to stay with that company if you message enough to make the slight increase in cost worthwhile. Otherwise, I would definitely switch over. Verizon has a much broader coverage and better network.

Oh and.. I would personally avoid taking advice from folks who use terms such as "iFail4". An honest inquiry deserves an honest answer. Obviously, based on its overwhelming success, the iPhone is not a failure.

              You're right. I shouldn't talk bad about all the Iphone's (err, iFail's) I've had...

              3G, 3GS, 4G...

I don't know a thing about jailbreaking, unlocking, or even using them for that matter.

Nothing to see here... move along...

4g is fast...battery killer but fast. you might really regret getting the 4 instead of the 5. one of my co-worker is waiting for the 5 because of 4g but he might get the 4 or an android if they discontinue the unlimited data plan. another is still on AT&T and waiting for the 5 to come out before switching.

You can receive texts at the same time you are on a call with Verizon. It all boils down to are you a geek or not? I love tinkering with stuff and thats why I like android but I have to restart the thing every few months because it will slow down and freeze on me. When I had a iphone I never had that problem but with that said I won't own an iphone again just because I don't like being stuck with what Jobs feels I need.

verizon will be going o a tiered data plan once they get a broader 4g footprint. so unless you have an unlimited 4g data plan now. when they switch over you will pay up the a## for data. but if you get a 4g phone it automayically comes with 4g unlimited data. even if you are not in a 4g market yet. you will atleast be grandfathered in for the contract life.

Verizon's 4G LTE supports voice and data at the same time, and you can get SMS messages while on the phone on the current 3g network (happens to me all the time on my droid).

ATT is out of excuses for their crappy service. Even their ad claiming 97% coverage is for EDGE network, not 3g service. Read their fine print sometime.

And yes, please continue to call it the iFail. Android is outshipping Apple already, and will continue to pull away as people grow weary of Apple's crap. Once Jobs keels over, wait and see how people flee.
