Anything special about it?
Is it up to the other consoles resolution wise?Originally posted by MunkIf you have a metal box that has "Anthrax" written on the side, are you a terrorist? or just a fan of a great band?sigpic"Those who would ban extended magazines, will say that although hundreds of thousands are in circulation and thousands more will surely be sold before a ban is enacted, it will be worth it if it saves just one life. It has glassless 3D. Early reports aren't good but there are always naysayers for every new product release. The resolution of the top 3D screen is 400X240 compare to 256X192 for the DS. Battery life is apparently shorter. 3 to 5 hours compared to something like 8 to 10 hours with the DSi. 3DS can play old DS games.
Yeah it's not for everyone but Nintendo always releases some game that I MUST play and not having a DS anything ATM I figure I may as well look into this if I decide to drink the DS kool aid. Can't wait to see the store demo. That will help me decide.Frank Da TankComment

BestBuy has demos already setup for them. Tried it in store yesterday and I was not impressed. Yes the 3d effect works, from one specific position. In that perfect spot it works quite well to provide I dunno, maybe 2 inches of depth in the pilotwings demo they had running. Maybe other games can make better use of it? But with the screen so small the 3d effect is a little underwhelming. It's like those hologram images you can shift side to side, except that you can't shift it(it either ends up looking flat, or blurred) and the image is the size of a baseball card(if that). The resolution of the display is not any better than the current DSi. The analog "stick" is more like a slider, and it gets the job done I suppose.
The launch titles are all garbage. I really suggest waiting until some better games come out, or at least trying it out in a store first and not just buying it without even seeing it.Comment

The previews for Street Fighters and stuff looks cool. I want it but not for the price of $250. I'd rather get a 22/45 or MARK III

i think i would rather wait for the new psp. i was never a fan of it because of the one joystick made many game very hard for me especially shooters. but now they fixed it so it might be worth it.Comment

My buddy is getting one but he has every system that exists but rarely has the time to play which is weird.
But to warn you guys they region encode the games not the system so if you want to play old import games or buy new ones they won't work.
Saw a guy who learned the hard way, just came back from Japan with the a new 3DS he wanted it before we got it here in the US, tried some old US games and it won't even detect them.Comment

augmented reality looks pretty sweet

I tried it @ Best Buy and yes, Pilotwings looks AMAZING. It's believable 3D on a small screen and doesn't cause vertigo because you can still see "reality" on both sides of the display to orient you with the real world.
The 3D effect really helped with stunt flying and hitting the aerial goals You can adjust the depth via slider to suit your eyes but you have to view it straight on .I think it is two screens on top of each other with the depth provided by slightly offsetting them (stereoscope?), with the slider controlling that offset.
But one nice app doesn't a good system make. The present line up has no MUST play games except Mario Kart. It needs a Zelda or a solid Mario platformer to take it over the top IMO. Maybe I'll wait for a bit.Last edited by SnWnMe; 03-25-2011, 2:34 PM.Frank Da TankComment
