transferring laptop hard drive to desktop

Whats the cheapest way? Is an enclosure the cheapest? Or do they have adapters i can use? I just need to remove things from a HD to mine, wanting something via USB.

You can find USB adapters for $10-15, or just get an enclosure for $15-20 and then you'll have a small USB hard drive.

If you only need it to just copy data once, rent something from Frys and return it the next day.

You should have an external drive handy for many reasons, they're so inexpensive now there is no reason not to. Check out the local Fry's or even just do a google search for external hard drive.

One other alternative is a 20.00 kit from Fry's that allows you to connect virtually any drive without an enclosure. They carry them over by the regular enclosures but you usually have to ask for them since the people don't seem familiar with the kit.

What the above guys said, either enclosure or the hard drive adapter kits would be the easiest way to go. If it's just a one time copy and you don't want to spend the money you could open the desktop and see if there's additonal cables for another hard drive. If so plug that in with the computer powered off and when you boot it back up you should see the extra drive there. Copy what you need, shut down the computer and unplug and your done.

You can get a desktop to laptop adapter and a desktop hard drive splitter cable to do exactly what you want. It will cost you a couple bucks but not much.

            Got a Fry's near you?
