At work, Windows XP Pro. For home, MAC OSX Leopard (older IMAC G4).

Wife uses Windows 7 on her laptop.

We do have some older test equipment with DOS. Keeps my command line skills up to par.

Linux is first because it is free and so freaking fun to mess with (A LOT safer too)

Then Mac, just because it is more stable than windoze

I have 1 computer running vista, and that is just so I won't have to screw with getting ubuntu to run Halo 2

So far I really like Windows 7. I didn't mind Vista. I knew how to turn off the few annoying features that caused others so much strife and really enjoyed the addition of Media Center as a standard feature. Windows 7 however runs faster and smoother and still has Media Center bundled into it.

Right now I have 3 desktops and 1 laptop all running Windows 7. The desktops are all hooked up to flat screen TVs. One desktop has over 2000 movies and TV Show episodes on the hard drive, and the others stream that content via Media Center. Which makes it seem like those movies are all on those individual computers when they are not. It is a really seamless way to watch your entire media collection in every room of the house. I used to have giant binders full of DVDs and have to spend forever deciding what to watch. Now I do not have a single movie DVD or a single music CD in the house. They are all on the hard drive(s) and organized by genre with poster and background art, cast bios, detailed descriptions, and so on. I can sort/search by genre, actor, director, you name it. All by remote control. And in every room of the house. It is great! And the software to do it came bundled into Windows 7 at no extra cost.

One of the great things about Windows 7 is that it runs without issue and very fast on a lot of older computers. A lot of computers that could not handle Vista do just fine with Windows 7. It is kind of amazing.

have heard & read good things about macs snow leopard os, but i'm on a pc, so no matter.

i'm currently running windows 7 & it's like microsoft finally figured it all out. connecting all the dots, so to say......

some of my very tech savvy friends, intel employees & microsoft both; are raving about how great & stable the new windows 7 os is. i've also witnessed friends upgrading their software after waiting from windows 98 second edition, til now, to purchase just the software. from pushing the button for start up & getting online, should only take about 20 seconds, compared to a few minutes before via comcast high speed access. only thing that's changed is operating system & added 1 more gig of memory.

this is also on a laptop, & don't see any need for hardware taking up space in my comfy home office

have had a very good experience since oct or nov of last year. not one crash or bluescreen, whatever....

i use either google chrome or most current firefox to navigate the web

Windows 7 as it came on the desktop when I bought it. I do some video editing so is it even worth buying a Mac desktop for that?

For video editing, Macs are king. Final Cut Pro / Final Cut Express / iMovie. FCP does half of the industry work, with AVID less than 22%. Once you use it, and it does have a large learning curve, you'll understand why it's so dominant. If you're only doing "some" video, the free iMovie is pretty awesome too. FCE is a mid-range option, offering more power than iMovie but at a discount to FCP's expense.

Windows Vista for my primary, CentOS for my phone system, WinXP elsewhere (home theater PC, laptops, garage PC, and wife's PC.

Have Win7 at work, it's okay but I prefer my home Vista install. I just can't seem to break my habit of hitting the windows key then "r" to go to /start/run and it's driving me nuts. I really miss the "Classic" style start menu.

Ubuntu Linux on my work laptop, and my home machines. I've converted about 1/3 of the engineers on my team at work to Ubuntu also, screw the IT dept and their Windows 7 crap


I'll bend and run Windows XP when I want to play some games, but that's it.

Not falling for the overpriced proprietary Mac crap though, sorry.
