No, its an RG problem, as confirmed by Uverses tech while on the phone with them. They said the newer RG's arent liking Vista, which is why the XP and Win7 computers didnt have a problem. Also, I have used both the XP and Vista computers on the road with wi fi with zero problems. Not one problem until this new RG was installed.

And, no, it wasnt named the same as the old connection. 2Wire RG's have their own ID's. My old one was 2wire084, my new one is 2wire022. 2 completely different names, and the computers were all set up on the old router using zero extra steps. No MAC confusion, as the new profile was set up for the new RG.

You should change that, the default WEP key on 2Wire routers is the routers MAC address. Unless they stopped setting the default WEP key to the MAC (or switched to WPA/WPA2) you're pretty much advertising a wide open AP.

Bad advise, using WEP is just about the same as leaving your key in the door. Anyone can crack it in 30 seconds to a minute with a laptop and wireless card.

We got Uverse a year or so ago. Took two guys working full time at our house over a week to get it right.

they come 'stock' with wpa2. had to switch to wep to get it all to work.

I am not done fiddling with it yet, but my wife can get online and do her homework now, so she is happy.

Bout time they changed that, I still see tons of 2Wire APs around here using the default WEP key. Instead of using WEP I would turn that routers routing function off (effectively making it a switch) and just plug my own into it. But then again I never use the routers the ISP offers, they're almost always overpriced junk.

Sure it worked but now their wireless connection is wide open for a man in the middle attack.

So, my tv's all froze up again last night. Called them, and they said there were definitely line problems of some kind.

Tech came out today, and said there were 25-30v backfeeding on the coax lines. The only TV's hooked up to the box via coax were three old 13" tv's, one on my desk, one in each boy's room. So, he converted two of the three of them to AV inputs and put a filter on the last one. The backfed voltage was affecting signal quality for the TV side, but not the internet side. They changed out the RG for nothing it would appear.

Anyway, we will see if this fixes it permanently, however we were buying flatscreens to replace the tube tv's anyway.

On the plus side, he gave us 3 HDMI cables for the new tv's, so we dont have to buy them our selves, and gave us his cell number so we dont have to mess with the Uverse robot phone machine.

ETA: Thumbs up for ATT, they have been extremely quick to help and very polite in all of our dealings with them.

When I get it connected, it says "local access only" and it says that it is a public network. I cant get it to switch to private network, and cant get to the internet.

                            Any ideas?

Did you install an anti-virus program lately? I've fixed computers for my wife's company that did similar things. Often an uninstall/reinstall will correct the issue.

No. Nothing had been changed besides the gateway.

I have absolutely no problem believing you on this one. My wife was upset about Comcast's price so we decided to try Uverse when they called our house with a "special offer".

To make the very long story long, it took an hour and a half going through the ordering process, speaking to several different "managers" to confirm the order. I gave them my home and work numbers for contact. The earliest appointment we could get was 3 1/2 weeks out...

I received a call the next day at work stating "Dwayne at AT&T called. He wants you to call him back." Unfortunately Dwayne didn't leave a phone number and the staff assumed that I knew it. (The number was somewhere at home where my wife had filed it.)

I called the 800 number and went online, but no one knew who "Dwayne" was (surprising since I didn't have a last name). I got home that evening to a two phone messages: at 1pm it was "This is Dwayne at AT&T. I need you to call about your order." then at 2:30pm "This is Dwayne again. We needed to reschedule, and since you didn't call back we have cancelled your order. Please call &&&***#### to reorder." Oh, and might I add that this was after I had moved into a new office the year before and had daily to twice daily issues with AT&T DSL refusing to connect for 20-30 minutes at a time-and issue that AT&T blamed on our computers. The issue was fixed by myself personally after many hours on PCMech.com fishing for answers.

After having wasted over an hour the first time, I called AT&T to see if they could just reactivate the order. I was rather smugly told "you'll just have to call the number to reorder.". No one offered any sort of assistance and stated that I'd have to wait my turn in line (it was rather backed up).

I wasn't even able to get that C/S rep to understand why I was a little upset. I couldn't get the next phone rep to understand either, nor could I get the internet rep to understand even when I told them that I not only was cancelling my home phone due to horrible service, but I am a physician owner of a four person practice and that I would assure that our 8 lines (high call volume) would be switched to Verizon.

I still couldn't get any sort of interest out of AT&T. All that I can say is that I'm still on Comcast awaiting Verizon's push of FiOS to our area (I've received confirmation that it is being routed as we type) and have transferred the remainder of my calls to Verizon. I couldn't be happier with AT&T out of my life.

Sorry for anyone who works at AT&T and may suffer from less business, but I will go back to AT&T just after relinquishing my last firearm to our government should it turn into a totalitarian utopia.
