    iPhone update question

I currently have an iPhone 3G, which when coupled with IOS4.x is slow as crap.

I'm thinking of buying an iPhone 4, not going through AT&T and reupping but just buying it myself, but I'm not sure if it is as simple as moving the SIM or if I have to deal with AT&T doing something mystical at the office.

I want to avoid dealing with AT&T on this because I still have my unlimited data plan and I'm pretty sure that if they have to do anything they will try to tell me I have to switch to one of their limited plans.

So any issues with just a SIM swap or is there more to it?

The iPhone 4 uses a micro sim and the 3G use a regular one. The sim on your 3G wont fit in the ip4 as it is to big. You can cut it down to size though.

Hmm... well that puts a whole new spin on things.
I might have to look at getting one from AT&T then.

All you need to do is cut the regular SIM to size, it is a very simple process.

I have the same issue. 3G with OS 4. My phone hangs up and crashes. I also acn not use the phone with the 3G network at home...Calls are dropped and I get NO SERVICE messages.

I also have the grandfathered unlimited data plan and was told that I could upgrade my phone and keep the plan I have.

              I'll be sticking with AT&T.

you can down rev the os to something that worked

but the iPhone 4 is just awesom!

Be careful, if you cut the SIM card down, you may not be able to store as many phone numbers on it as you did before, and you may lose numbers that were stored on the full size one.

Despite what some people think ATT will not try to talk you into a lower limited data plan, especially if you go into a store. Out of the 2-300 iphone upgrades I've done I have seen only a handful of people go down to a limited plan from an unlimited one and I have never tried to talk someone out of an unlimited.

If you do an upgrade just make sure to tell them you want to keep your current plan and you're set.

May I suggest a whole new different phone?

I also got to keep my unlimited data when I upgraded.

I have maintained my unlimited plan from 3g to 4 so service level was maintained with the upgrade. Calls continue to drop at the same rate particularly Friday afternoon and evenings.

So bottomline you do not have to worry about any service level changes.

                          Whatsoever.

Easier than using the delete function though if someone's last name begins with an "a" or "z".
