    iphone screen replacement

    Well gravity is still working

I dropped my iphone today and the screen cracked and spider webbed

Ive got two options for replacement of the screen

I do it through watching youtube videos and DIY's
    or
I find someone on craigslist or someone you guys could recommend to do the replacement for me

Has anyone replaced their screen before?

    Thankyou

What model do you have 2G, 3G, 3GS, or the 4?

I've done about over 100 of them don't do it much anymore but still do it on the side now and then.

If you want to do it yourself I can walk you through it. But be warned most parts are after market no matter what anyone tells you. They will still look and function the same so their are no worries their.

    Let me know.

My girlfriend has changed her screen by herself and she fixed my iPhone when I dropped it in the toilet. I have seen the screens go for like $10-30 bucks on ebay and other sites. She jjust watched a youtube vid and did it herself. She used one of the suction cups from the body scubber in the shower and changed it in a few minutes.

If you change the whole frame and glass combo it can take a few minutes like 10-15 minutes. But if you break the glass off the old frame it can take 30 minutes to an hour.

The glass kits cost about 15 dollars the frame and glass combo costs about 30-35 dollars.

Frame combos are a hell of a lot easier to do and much faster but depending on who made the part have many problems with quality control. And that was the reason I broke the old glass off and used the glass digitizer and meticulously made sure it was done right with as many factory apple parts as possible.

If your contract is up soon you can always just get a new phone, if you want to keep it then depending on how much you want to spend and how much longer you want to keep using it will determine if fixing it is worth it. The phones are so cheap now a buddy just got a new 3GS for 50 bucks with a contract I told him to just get the I-Phone 4 that the monthly bill is still going to be the same but they hosed him making think he is going to save money other than the 150 on the price of the phone.

If you want to repair Apple products yourself, www.ifixit.com is your friend. I bought an old school iPOD battery off them awhile back and it could not be easier to install. The battery even came with a set of plastic tools to get the thing apart.

Replaced a cracked LCD and had a new battery put in on my iPod from http://www.milliamp.com/ in Texas. I sent it out to them and got it back quick. I highly recommend these guys - or buy the parts from them and do it yourself.

I used craiglist to find a "shop" that fixes iphone (it is a store front, but co-shared). They're located up in Westminister. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mob/2162235903.html. These guys looked like they had a lot of practice and they were inexpensive.

My wife's cousin advertises on Craigslist in the SGV area, but he did my wife's 3G for free since it doesn't cost too much. Only took about 10 min too.

As long as the digitizer is working and you only need the glass changed out on the 2G/3G/3GS or on the iPods, it's easy & cheap to do. If it's the 4G or iPad, then there's more work involved and it costs more for the glass.

Apple doesn't have insurance for the glass or warranty on the glass they know you will or eventually can break the glass. So they make you buy a new phone fore 400-600 no contract or sale you a refurbished phone for 199 and won't even transfer the data.

So having it done for 35-80 dollars is a bargain.

The 2G model can't be replaced that easy most won't do it because they fuse the LCD to the frame and the phone was made in a way that it's not meant to come apart after assembly. And most people don't even have or want to use this phone, and it's long discontinued.

Same design with the I-Phone 4 so you have to replace the whole frame, glass, and LCD as 1 unit even if it's only the glass and it's not cheap or easy.

The glass is the digitizer, your touch screen so if you crack the glass the whole thing has to come out it's got a ribbon that connects to the mother board you can't see it until you open the phone. Your new glass will come with a new ribbon.

                          DEFENS..
Do you know how to do a iPhone 2G. I think its the digitizer.. half of the screen is non-responsive.
