        Outstanding choice.

        App #1: Angry Birds.
        App #2: Android Assistant.
        App #3: AppBrain.

The rest...depends on what you want to use the droid for.

Do you have servers to manage at work via RDP? Install pocket cloud. Using your phone as an alarm? Alarm Clock Plus is awesome...especially when you set it to force you to do math before you can shut off the alarm. DroidLight is very useful for me, as is the epicurious app.

You should wait another week, new 4G LTE phones coming out. In fact they're going to be announced tomorrow at CES.

Verizon has already added the SKUs to their internal ordering system, I expect them to be delivering to people next month and ordering to begin next week.

Don't worry about the new phones the Droid X is currently the best around. You can look on the App Brain website and they have listings on more apps than you could ever use. There are also remarks by the people that have bought or downloaded them to help you decide what to get. Another idea is to join the Droid X forum of which I am a member and you can ask away and the people there will be happy to help.

                          I love my Droid X.

                          Applications (pay):
"Beautiful Widgets" animated clock and Weather application.
"Grocery King" powerful shopping list application.
"Deadly Chambers" 1st person zombie shooter.

Applications with free and pay versions:
"Where" - Finds local food and drink based on your GPS coordinates.
                          "Lookout" a security application.
"Sound Hound" ever hear a song and wonder what it was? Sound Hound will listen for a few seconds and then tell you.
                          "Google maps"
"Pandora" internet music player but make sure you have unlimited data.
                          "Angry Birds" free game
"WiFi Analyzer" for finding and analyzing Wifi connections.
"Advanced Task Killer" closes apps that won't shut down.
