Impressed with Upgrade to EVGA GTS450

Just went to two monitors this weekend, and upgraded the video from a 8500GT with 512M DDR2 to a GTS450 with 1G GDDR5 and impressed. Windows experience went from 4.9/Graphics and 4.6/Gaming to 7.1/Graphics and Gaming.

Purchased for $139.95 and $20 off coupon; had to pay the governor though.

I am not a gamer, so I look for price and low power consumption, heat, and quietness. This one fits the bill well on all counts. The old card served me well for a single monitor, but was not all that good going to two.

The extra desktop space is nice. I wonder how I got along in the last couple of years. Maybe go for a third monitor which comes in handy for the type of software apps I run (multiple windows).

    That's all.

You sure you don't mean $239.95? I just paid $229 for my Palit GTX460 1GB a few weeks ago and got a $30 off rebate. How much RAM is on yours? As for going with 3 monitors, you'll need another card since these only support 2 outputs at a time (the DVI and HDMI share their port). You'll want an EyeFinity card if you want a true multi-display setup.

a 450GTS and a 460GTX aren't even close to the same thing. 128 bit v. 256 bit and nearly double the processing cores just to point out two of the bigger differences.

To the OP: Glad you're enjoying it! Nothing quite spruces up a computer's performance like a GPU upgrade.

Oops, must not have been looking too close at that. Not even the same series card.

The GTS450 is a excellent value. They perform quite well in SLI mode too.

He bought a GTS, not a GTX.

I would certainly hope that you enjoyed the difference between an 8500 and the newer graphics processors. That is quite a step up and should be very niceable.

I went from the 8700 to a GTX285 and noticed a huge improvement. EVGA is the way to go, by the way. Lifetime warranty and a company that actually provides support.
